Old Man Cuz

Long ago memories, tucked inside of his head
Make beaten paths like so many small feet
He lives for today, but the times he do dread
To live in the past would be ever so sweet

When paces were slower, people befriending
The air was much cleaner, the water ran clearer
An idle summer day, seeming unending
When family & friends couldn’t be nearer

Tho not for the better, the times they have changed
The world has grown smaller, yet people have spread
Newer and faster, our values now rearranged
Feeling, compassion written off as if dead

Yet still he yearns for those simpler times
When those who had wronged, owned up to their faults
He sits and he dreams and his spirit climbs
Oblivious to the reality, he’s lost in his thoughts

Love one another-let God do the worrying,
Rodney

Oh this one touched my heart.  I have a soft spot for the elderly.  I think that they long for the old days, not so much because they were young, but because society had a certain reverance for the elderly.  Society treated them with respect and now they're pushed aside and labeled worthless.  Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.  What I meant to say was...

This is a wonderful piece and I enjoyed it greatly!!

Thank you all for your responses...I work with "Cuz", he is an older man that sits and reminisces...and loves to talk about the old days in Kentucky...and I love to talk about them too because it helps with my genealogy research...and by virtue of out talking I found out that he and I may be related and that I am related to an old school friend of his...it is a small world when we let our guard down and talk to one another...

Love one another-let God do the worrying,
Rodney

Old Man Cuz sounds like he's got his head well screwed on!
