To Rub out Time

We are mired in the mud,
this road has gotten so rough
and winding these tires slip.
Oh, such a vehicle,
so smiley and wide,
a comfort that seemed
would last forever
across the wind swept road.

Is this wrinkle a show
that would display all the minutes
where dreams were born?
for struggles twisted the shining
and rust seemed so small at first,
take care of rust
rub it out rub it out
sings the morning quietly,
such a small thing can grow
you know.

Could we but matriculate into our years
then graduate with lively lust intact
and a house with a picket fence
almost paid for
and travel to places
where destiny surely waits
and will always wait.

But truly
would it matter if you had your cup of tea
and a beer at sunset,
the other side of youth just is
all of a sudden,
like a coin flipped and riding circles
it falls
and settles
and you can’t turn it over,
not with a sigh or a promise.

So lets feed this precious minute
pieces of our flesh
and look at the sky where stars wink,
conspirators in some grand design,
capture its essence,
pull out all the worth of it
and fill it up to tomorrow,
for there is no polish that will
rub out time.

Very thought-provoking.

Martie~
What truths in this piece.

'the other side of youth just is
all of a sudden,
like a coin flipped and riding circles
it falls
and settles
and you can’t turn it over,
not with a sigh or a promise.'

My goodness where DO you get your ideas?
Spell-binding !

While destiny waits, a special few steer their own course with their unique talents.
Have a feeling more than a few stars are winking at you Martie.

Hi Marty,
I love reading your poetry and this one speaks to me....let no rust form, should it- polish it immediately. Loved it!

Liked this one. Nice read and it made you think. Life does has it rough places..but if you rub it out, make it new, things will be okay.

Elizabeth--If it is thought provoking then I am pleased.

Marge--Ideas just come from living and maybe thinking too much...same place you get yours.

Mike--Those same ones that are winking at you in Kansas.

Prometheus--no more then a wisp...how true!

Alle'--so glad you enjoyed my poem...thanks so much for the reply!

Kitkat--just appreciate each moment...they are gone so fast.

You speak with such beauty and truth, my friend... thank you for reminding us how precious Time is.
