Denied again,
You close to me
You’re gone for now
With family

I hoped tonight
For your return
I long your eyes
Dark brown and warm

An hour I’ll drive
To welcome you home
But I don’t know when
So I hold close my phone

The phone, it rings!
Your number shows!
Your flat mate called
God bless you Jeff

No word tonight
Of your return
Another day I must withstand

Tomorrow
Maybe
I’ll get your call
My body will vibrate
Thanks to that phone and all

And when it does I’ll check the number
Will it be Jeff
Or you…
My thunder

Interesting..Waiting is a pain isn't it?
I wonder how this got buried. A small poem with a lot of impact. I liked it.

Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau"

Hi Doug! I'm patient for a while when it comes to waiting, but after that I'm just nuts. I can imagine what this would be like. Sounds long awaited for, the anxiety is a killer. Hope that 'Thunder' calls soon

Doug -- I really enjoyed this.  I remember well all the times I'd run to the phone at every ring hoping against hope that it was 'him' and it would always be my mother or the neighbor.  You captured those feelings very well!

Home again
And what a night!
We opened up
Brought truth to light

You sang to me
With siren’s tongue
Till my head just
Spun and spun

I talked
You talked
We talked some more
Now
I know
What friends are for

Welcome home
Please stay a while
I’ll sit right here and watch your smile
