~Broken Chains~
Amy M. Kennedy

Before I met you I wasn’t really living
My day consisted of going through the motions
Always scared to let my feelings go
Instead I bottled up my emotions

Meeting you has freed my soul
The chains broken at last
You became the air I breathe
And I was no longer haunted by memories of the past

I never knew true love before our paths crossed
I thought I did a time or two
Never knew what it’s like to fly
I soar to the heavens when I’m with you

Put your hand into mine
I promise to never break your heart
Want to share my life with you
It’s time to make a new start

Together we can achieve the impossible
Apart, we’ll never stand a chance
Need you to know I love you completely
Think perhaps I did from that first glance

I know that you love me
But I question do you love me as I love you
When I say your name on my lips I tremble inside
And now I turn and ask do you?

"Don't be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is before you can meet again. And meeting again after a moment or a lifetime is certain for those who are friends."

"Fate exists but it can only take you so far,
Because once you're there
It's up to you to make it happen."

Amy, what a bittersweet, yet beautiful poem.  I am so happy for you that you have finally broken free of those chains, a pain I know all to well.  I am sure that he will answer that he is deeply in love with you, also that you're a great poet

Take care,

Thats the knife edge we run along , the pleasure and the pain that makes love worth while, you've hit the nail on the head, a wonderful piece, tenderly conveyed.
Thank you

Ooooh at first I heard those chains going with a big KERCHING!!!!!!!! and then I saw just how effectively they had gone! The last stanza is what did it... very powerful!
