I know you.

You are the child, now grown,
hypnotized by the rhythmic cadence of Mother's voice.
You are the toddler, always falling,
exploring dark and hidden places, forever reaching.
You are the school child, still learning,
the word "Why?" imprinted on your psyche.
You are the teen, hormones flaring,
engulfed equally by love and lover's grief.
You are the adult, living life,
discovering joy and pain anew every day.

You are the man,
you are the woman,
you are the writer,
awash with memories,
drowning in feelings,
teeming with desires,
a vortex of wise answers
and wiser still questions.

I know you.
You are my brother, my sister, my other self.

I know you. I do.
You are a poet.

When was the last time
you posted, O friend of mine?
When did we last gaze
upon your uttered phrase?

And now we have one to see
and I give thanks, to you, from me.

Ron, This poem is fabulous, and you are such a kind hearted man, to share so much with us here at Passions. This place is not a second home to me, it is home and I love it  here, so thank you very much for having it. Now for a big WHY is this poem not set up to be a book submission, do we all need to vote for you publically? It's a landslide anyway, this poem should be the opening poem of Voices.

Ron,
The ties that bind, the common denominator that brings us all together, they are found right here in these forums that you have given us.  For all of the differences that we may have we have, age, race, social standing, we are all one as poets.
This poem should be the flagship for the book.  It encompasses all that these forums represent.
I am happy to have been able to finally read one of your works.
Wonderful poem... and thank you.

Ron, these responses listed above, as well as mine, are a fitting tribute to what you are and what you have done. If it is true that a man's success is based on how many lives he touches and how much of a difference he can make to brighten others' lives then I would say that you are successful beyond any standard known. By your hard work and determination and passion, hundreds of people here have had a place to share their poetry, happiness, sadness, make new friendships and have their loads lightened a little by the comraderie of others. Quite a feat from one man and yet it is so. This threat is your testament and proof of your accomplishment.,,,and what you've done will not be forgotten.

Oh, and the poem wasn't bad, either

Yes we are all kindred spirits in a way, everyone who puts thoughts on paper, but here on passions we a closer knit family, a family whose principles reflected in the poetry reflect the patriarch of the family. Thank you for maintaining this web site with integrity and yet with warmth and openness.

What a magnificent poem this would be for the start of the book Ron!  I've often wondered what makes poetic souls "different" from the rest, and you've captured it so concisely in this splendid poem.  Each day in these forums, I see others, who with a stroke of their pen, are able to put to paper, any number of these wonderful traits you've described so eloquently. Indeed, it is as if you see a reflective glimpse into anothers soul ... a poets soul.  Beautiful, thought-provoking poem!

Thank you again Ron, and glad to see you got a chance to get away from the programming for a wee bit

Best wishes

Gosh.

You guys are really fantastic. To be honest, your comments have brought a shadow of a tear to my eye and brightened what has been a darn hectic, often awkward, week. I begin a 3-day tech class today, and I should be preparing my class plan this morning, but I had to take a moment to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of support. Those of you who follow some of the discussions in Philosophy know that I don't believe in altruism. Everyone does everything they do for purely selfish reasons, and I'm no different.

Passions exists because I honestly enjoy sharing my world and time with like-minded people who believe in the power of the written word, who trust as I do that this world can be changed by better understanding the hearts of others. The Truth found in poetry, or any honestly written work, is the highway leading towards that understanding, and Passions is just one of many onramps to that highway. Obviously, it's become a pretty important onramp in my life, and I take seriously my job of filling in the potholes and laying down a new patch of asphalt where it's needed. It's extremely gratifying to know others have found the onramp as valuable as do I. Rest assured that when the sun is beating mercilessly on bare shoulders, when the smell of tar clogs my nostrils and the weight of my shovel seems too much to bear, your words - in this thread and in your poetry - will make a real difference to me. And while I don't do it as often as I once did, or as often as I'd like, I will always try to leave the onramp occasionally and venture out into the middle of the road with the rest of you wonderful poets. There, after all, is where the real work of changing the world one word at a time is being done.

In closing, I'll leave you with a sordid confession. As I indicated in a recent Forum News post, I'd like to write a new poem as my entry in Voices, and that's where this poem had its origin. The working title was "Passion's Promise," and was meant to be an exploration into my vision of what this site means. But as so often happens in poetry, the focus changed as the words found their way to paper. Instead of talking about the website, instead of talking about the poetry and the power we have in our hands for real change, I found myself writing about the poets, about the people who have truly built Passions. About you.

And I think maybe that's the way it should be.

Obscured by clouds, the sun shone, showered
Rays vivid and bright, at the other world,
When the dark feathers from sky cleared,
An infinite glow when lovely sparklers rained, bold.

A solar eclipse brought out a rare diamond ring,
Busy birds, tentative, nervous a while ago,  tweeted,
Now, in perfect harmony and synchronised melody, they sing,
And I behold the Master, in a divine throne, seated.

Fine words, expertly carved pieces of a rare artefact,
An ode glorifying the lesser beings took glorious shape,
The Emperor of Passions with exotic charm does attract,
With a write, so well-written that I stare and gape.
.......

Ron,
Thanks for everything....

regards, sudhir.

Hmmmm.... as I read this poem I thought to myself "Self... (funny how I always call myself that, isn't it?) "Self, this should be the introductory poem for The Book (shouldn't we have a shortcut keystroke for that?  :b or something?).

Anyway, it should be submitted for votes.

This poem is fantastic! I love it!
Thank you so much for passions! You may know me, but I didn't know me, until I found passions. It really has changed my life! Your poem sais it all so beautifully.I'm not sure, but I think I believe in altruism though, (for purely selfish reasons). You've certainly been generous with your heart. Thank you again.

Hi Ron
Well this is a fantastic poem!
I just had to come in and say so.
In your wonderful site its never too late to reply.

*Thanks for allowing insect to be a part of all this
magic that appears on the stage of forums. Creativity
has always been a part of me and your site has made it
possible for myself and all the other poets to express
some of it.

Here's a poem for you

Poetry Rainbow

You shine through me
I am arched into your gold
You allow me to be free
I will show my colours till I'm old
Sometimes I may fade
Then your sun breaks through the rain
Suddenly a colourful cascade
We become a Poetry Rainbow again

I can you know me, when I don't even know myself?     We all look for so much more, when all the answers are deep inside, away from I, just like them, who are all of us.

Peace be with you.
