THE HOLOCAUST

The Jews were called to be selected,
the rest of their lives would be affected,
women and men had to divide,
others ran away or chose to hide.

Railway trucks were prepared,
as the Jews were getting scared,
the authorities took them away,
they should have had the right to stay.

Arrangements were made for the Jews to die,
how dare those evil Nazis tell a lie?
they told them they were going to a better place,
it didn’t stop tears falling from a young boy’s face.

They were told to undress,
they were in a total mess,
the Jews were told they were going to shower,
but had to wait for what seemed an hour.

The Nazi soldiers were brutal and violent,
they told the Jews to shut up and be silent,
lack of food caused lots of disease,
the thought of a shower set them at ease.

They stood and waited for the water to come,
and suddenly their bodies went numb,
they knew their lives had come to an end,
they wished the Nazis had been their friend.

The victims staggered about for air,
the Nazis really did not care,
they were just simply spineless,
and also they were totally mindless.

Gas came out from vents in the ceiling,
some cried out in prayer and so were kneeling,
they coughed and spluttered until their lungs were sore,
then one by one they fell to the floor.

The bodies were put into a pile,
which they left out for a while,
the rotting corpses were hauled to the crem,
which took an awful lot of men.

The Jewish prisoners who were left had to return,
to the rotting corpses before they were put to burn,
they had to cut off hair and pull out gold filling,
even though the prisoners were not really willing.

Oskar Shindler was very courageous,
when his mind was set to work he was dangerous,
he had a lot of influence and authority,
to save the Jews was his priority.

Oskar was one of kind,
he always seemed to speak his mind,
one thousand one hundred Jews he saved,
they all thought he was very brave.

One of the most terrible times in the history of mankind. Human beings just like you and I slaughtered like beasts of the field. I cannot imagine the horrific circumstances those poor people must have experienced. Never before in the annals of man's existence has there been such atrocities commited against another human race. I almost cry when I think about it. So sad when mankind's mentality deteriorates to the extent that he is prejudiced enough to kill his fellow man.

Have you ever seen Life is Beautiful? That's what I thought of when I read this (I haven't seen Schindler's List yet). Anyway, good job, Debbie! You did capture your feelings nicely.

Debbie I really liked the way you painted this horrible picture.  Once I started I knew I didn't want to finish, didn't want to remember what terror we are cabable of.  But you have riminded me of the fact that people out there are still sufferning in ways like this and I'm sitting here wondering what I want to do on Monday night.  Thanks for helping me get back in balance.
