Once Was a Man

There once were two eyes that held the stars in a trance
Two soft black eyes that swirled me into a dance
That smothered my lips, my eyes, my dress, and my face
And spoke without speaking and held me in captive embrace

There once were two arms that could have held me that night
With a tenderness not of words, but of gentle delight
There were two hands that could have caressed my skin
And spoken in silence the ecstasy drawn from within

There once were two eyes that looked to the depths of my own
And taught me to love in a way that I'd never known
There once was a man that I loved, but never embraced
There once was a heart that can never be truly replaced

Coming from you Elizabeth I knew I'd enter this post and not find a limerick.
Love this line
"and speak without speaking the ecstacy drawn from within"
and this one,
"There once was a heart that can never be truly replaced."
Very enjoyable read....Well done!

Just lovely Lizzy - as usual.

I agree with Sharon - it's hard to find the words to express how wonderful your poetry truly is.

Liz, as always beautiful and heartfelt.  As a poet, even I cannot find the words to express how deeply this touched me, it must have poured from your heart while writing this and I stand in awe. This is one of your best

Take care,

Liz,
All I can add at this moment, where words have deserted me is that, I ECHO what all have said above and say that this was most enjoyable...

Liz, this was beautiful! I especally loved the closing lines:

"There once was a man that I loved, but never embraced
There once was a heart that can never be truly replaced"

A beautiful piece, my friend.

Liz~
Truly beautiful, my dear!  It resounds in your heart long after your eyes have read the last word.
There once was a heart that can never be truly replaced

Truly Lovely!
