School Daze

Walking together
hand in hand,
my first day of school
I don't understand.
Who are these children?
Where are we going to?
I want to stay home!
I want to be with you!
What is a teacher?
What is there to learn?
"I went to school, you said,
now it's your turn."
"I feel hot and cold
I'm going to puke",
"You have to go, you said
there is no rebuke."
You picked me up
we go through a big door,
lots of hugs and kisses
I'm not afraid anymore.
I know you will be there
to bring me home,
you love me
I'm not alone.

Graduation is here
you signed my book,
later, in my room
I take a look.

To My Sweet Daughter
Lorraine,

Learn little maiden
before you grow old,
for learning is better
than silver or gold.
For silver or gold
may tarnish away,
but a good education
will never decay.

I remember that day
as clear as I see you,
Thank you, Mother
I miss you.

The first part captures the essence of a child's first (and sometimes subsequent) day of school, with all the mysterious ailments suddenly coming on and disappearing just as quickly, and the second part is so true. It's also a nice way to remember your mother.
I liked this much.

This was so touching and beautiful!
And it brought back some memories for me
of my Mom too. Beautiful emotion from your
heart captured sweetly with your pen.

take care.

Yup, you capture that "first day of school" feeling perfectly! What a beautiful tribute to your mother. Nice work Lorraine.

Beautifully written.  Talk about a nice Mother's day card.  I hope you have or are able to share this with your mom.  I loved this much.
