What's left of me ... inside of you ... did I leave anything behind,
am I a whisper in your heart ... a ghost of sweet regret in your mind.
Did I leave a trace of contentment ... did I mend the hole in your heart,
am I a secret that you keep ... a kind memory that love imparts.

When you think of me ... does it bring a gentle smile to your face,
do you cherish the love we shared ... is it held in a special place.
Did I leave a lasting impression ... any footprints on your soul,
did my love bring you peace ... did I complete and make you whole.

When you cry late at night ... am I there in your tears reflection,
did my love inspire you ... did I give your life direction.
Will I always be inside of you ... a soft shadow, a treasured memory,
will you look back on this love ... will this time be an echo of destiny.

Did my love make you strong ... did it help you to see your own light,
did my touch make you warm ... did my embrace comfort you in the night.
Can you now see the beauty in you ... can you love yourself thru my eyes,
can you accept fate's reasons ... walk the path to where love's future lies.

All of these things you have left in me ... a thousand kisses on my heart,
I hold on to the memories ... and cherish this love ... now that we're apart.

Janet~
you brought the house down with this
one girl! i love all of your poems but
some of them "hit home" harder for me
than others. i was most moved by this
piece and could feel it entirely!
powerful, intense, and in only the way
you can write...heartfelt! i stand in
awe of you my dear friend! you show me
what true inspiration can bring out in
a person and everyday i learn something
more from you. thank you.
love ya,
Amy

Janet,
This one is so sentimental, I can't tell how affected I am ...profound and emotionally charged it is...
........
All of these things you have left in me ... a thousand kisses on my heart,
I hold on to the memories ... and cherish this love ... now that we're apart.

wow...I am as always at a loss for words after reading your verses. What does one say to such beauty, such honesty, such tenderness and warmth. the only words I can muster are excellent followed by stunned silence...

OH my WOW!  You've left me utterly in awe Janet Marie ... this is absolutely wonderful. I'd have to copy the whole poem to show you which lines struck me the most, for the whole poem hit me with such impact.  I want to pick a favorite though, so this must be it ...

Oh Janet...out of all your beautiful pieces to him, this one has touched me so deeply, I am crying.  Girl, you sure know how to write what's in your heart and soul.  If this guy doesn't feel/see that beauty, then I dare say he's really lost out.  It's as if I wrote this poem myself....that's how well I relate. I think it's VERY important, that when someone touches us in our life here on earth, we should be sure to tell them, and let them know how they have impacted our lives.  Twice now, very recently, I've been touched such as this, to the degree that I'm now actually relocating again to change my direction.  I owe that all to these people in my life....One gave me hope, and the other gave me courage.  And they both know how they have altered my life in a more positive direction.  They will always have a special place in my heart, and they know that....I know I touched them too.  You keep writing these beautiful fragments of your heart Jan....let him know.  It's the sweetest memory I've ever seen from you.  Take care while I'm away - I'll be in touch, you can count on that.  Love you girl!  Gennifer

It is I who is awestruck and moved to tears ...
when I read these replies.
I had no idea this poem would evoke such emotion...
and I am deeply touched by these replies and compliments.
I guess I am just too close to the work
to be able to look at it objectively.
As Mark B. said in his reply
there is so much to learn here
from each other ...
and I have grown so much in the light
of this special place and from
all your encouragement and inspiration.
thank you to all here and to all who reply to this...
with much respect ,
jm

I think these are questions everyone who has ever been in love, then lost that love, asks themself at one time or another. I admire the way you can put words to all those feelings so well.

Janet,

How does one really ever get over a love felt as deeply as this? I don't think we have to get over it, in the end it does make us stronger!

I can see how deep your feelings run for this man! It isn't everyday that we find a love so pure and honest!

Here's to hoping you feel better!

If you ever just need a friend to listen you can always email me or catch me on ICQ!

Take care

Janet,

I can't begin to put words to this!  Just a remarkable tempest of love.  I'm in shock!
To love someone so deeply that all that matters is that there is something of you left in the other person.  Some mark, some 'footprints on your soul'.
I shall close my mouth now, swallow and remember to breathe.
This one will stay with me for a long time.  Wow!

Trew.

And all the time your face came back to haunt me.
