We write poetry mostly on love, how to move on, and other subjects.  How often do we take time out to offer a voice to those that need it.  If you've been through this...my heart goes out to you.

I opened my eyes,
You looked past the anxiety.
What did I do to deserve this?
Stop you're hurting me!!

I scream and strive,
My strength will never match yours.
Yet I don't give up,
I can't believe this is happening.

The feeling of being violated,
Will follow me forever.
I feel as though I'm vile,
Therapist say it will take a while.

Rape is a strong word,
But the action is even stronger.
No one deserves such impurity,
This can't keep going any longer.

I wake up to a bad dream,
A never-ending dream.
What can I do to stop this?
Can anyone hear my screams?

I live my life in fear,
A fear that has no end.
What can I do to stop this?
Can you reach out your hand?

Oh wow Miriam...this is heavy.  I know this speaks out to many here.  Luckily, I can say I haven't experienced this.  I know those who have though, and it eats at them throughout the rest of their life.  I applaude you speaking out on such a delicate subject....and I pray this isn't from experience.  So glad to have you here posting, as always!  More!

I have sent email

Rape ----------what does it do

it makes you feel inferior
and helpless
and disgusting
and dirty
and violates your very nature of being
a human

it kills your confidence
it destroys your own being

It needs and wants revenge
a punishment like no other

It makes you wish you were bobbit

and it ruins your trust

Rape is a killer that goes way beyond the
body

Great poem --------

This makes me ashamed to be male, and very angry at my gender. A very powerful reminder of what human beings are capable of.
Thankyou for sharing this with me,
Take care

This is a very powerful poem. It's terrible that this has to happen to people. My heart also goes out to anyone who has been through this. Thank you for bringing attention to this terrible occurence that happens all too often.

I too am ashamed to say that I am a male when things like this are so evident.  I truely hope this is not from real life experience for you and I offer what I can to those who have suffered this death.  Well, written and a great cause.

this reminds me of a couple of my poems. a very touchy subject here at the forums, and it is a picture of emotions you have painted very well. it is a good cause to fight for, and as another said i hope this does not stem from personal experience.

miriam, a powerful poem on one of the greatest crimes that man can commit. Really I don't know what else to say. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

thank you all for replying!! it really means a lot to me.  I'm happy to say that I'm not writing this from experience.  I thought people wouldn't respond to this becuase it is such a touchy subject.  But it's nice to see that this forum doesn't offer comfort just to the heartbroken...but to anyone who needs it. Regardless of the issue.  I think we all should be very thankful that we can meet in this place and express ourselves our own special way.  Thank you all, for showing me the support.  One of my friends just got raped...and eventhough it is hard on her...i need to find the right words to comfort her..and you guys are really helping me on that.  thanks.

Miriam,
you have addressed the beastly nature of man, the most terrible and unjust action by mankind....Thanks for that...

I am very much moved by the way you have written about this...

Regards and take care,
Sudhir
P.S. Some time back I had written a prose piece on the same subject of rape. If you wish to read that one, its presently in the "Voices..." forum, called "Failed To Blossom!"...

This poem is very powerful, and i am ashamed to be male with the rest of the side leting the good ones down, this poem reminds me why I often think I am just as close ( in mind and personality ) a woman as I am a man .
Powerful and truthful .

This is very true and real... I personally am filled with hatred towards people like that.  Being that my sister is a rape victim, along with one previous girlfriend and numerous other close female friends.  It can overpower that persons every being and ruin so many beautiful things that could be, but after something like that... it intensifies every feeling she has it seems.  Beautiful work.

This is such a difficult topic and you expressed the sentiments and frustrations well in this poem.

It is so difficult for the victims, their friends and families to deal with the roller-coaster of emotions that follow this type of viciousness.  I'm glad to read that your friend has agreed to professional counselling ... an objective third party can be so helpful to release the fears and anxieties that spring from such horrendous violation. Thank you for sharing this with us Miriam.

Best wishes,
/Kit
