Earth 3rd Rock from the sun!!

losts souls
wander aimlessly
through these desolate streets
under the neon lights
sleeping cold and damp
through the night
though we don't see
we know they are there
can't comprehend
so we pretend
and move along
without a care
the city blankets them
with dust and smog
as they try to fight
through the endless night
we don't venture there
for we don't want to know
what the daylight doesn't show

Julie :)

Julieann, I remember getting a bus through Dublin when I was working there last summer, and sleeping under the porch/pillars of a Church were a group of homeless people. I wondered how our society especially our country who have in recent years being celebrating ecomonic boom could allow this to continue.

A powerful poem, wonderfully written. This is an issue that needs to have more attention brought to it.

A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.

very mysterious and forbodding. it reminds me of the city i live in (Las Vegas). there are some things out there that we are better off knowing (or thinking) don't exist. we're just not ready for them. but that does change the fact that things lie in the dark. and they aren't goin away.< !signature-->

We all got somethin' we need to atone for.

I agree with B.M. I think we often turn a blind eye to issues we dont want to face, but this is all around us every day, your poem has made me think, well done, ( I dont think very often)
