Angels and Their Wings

I lie here in the stillness
Darkness my only friend
I hear the voices calling me
I fear this is the end.

Awkwardly I am moving
towards that circle of white light
wishing it was over
no longer must I fight.

Slowly I begin to shudder
cold winds begin to wail.
The voices they grow stronger
as I follow this ghostly trail.

Prayers will go unanswered
My soul cannot be saved
So now I face my demons
As I lie here rotting in my grave.

Creatures sweep down to take me
they capture me in their arms
I hear the voices whisper
“We will shelter you from harm”.

I was not a believer
religion was never my thing
But I thank the skies above
For Angels and their wings.

--------------
You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King
