Sitting by the candle light she patiently listens
listens to the steady beat of her heart
she knows it contains the answers she seeks
Thoughts of her lover come to mind, and the tears start

Quietly she steps off onto the porch
A light rain is falling down
Silence surrounds her
The beat of her heart is the only sound

She closes her eyes
Lifts her head to the sky
And for the millionth time
She asks herself again why

Why does she fall in love so fast
By now she knows the cost
But still she reaches out her hand
Hoping her soul she hasn't lost

Maybe one day she'll learn
if you play with fire
you get burned by the flame
left with only smoldering ashes after the desire

Her mind and heart are at constant war
Seems her head is a little smarter
But still her heart believes
Seems it's the one that's perhaps stronger

True love is what she searches for
Someone to hold her close at night
Thoughts again of her lover drift into her mind
A feeling of love washes over her and holds on tight

Rain gently pours from the sky
Sofly landing on her face and hair
Feeling somewhat comforted she starts to cry
How much more can her heart take, does she dare?

Dare to give this love one more chance
Or does she simply walk away
She knows in her heart of hearts
Just what she'll say

I love you, I need you
Please don't ever go
I see the look of love in your eyes
Now you know I know.

But you can't keep an angel
They are meant to fly
So if she has to let them go
She'll choke out the words...goodbye
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way
And I will always love you
Will always love you
You, my darling you
Bittersweet memories, that is all I'm taking with me
So goodbye, please don't cry
We both know, I'm not what you...you need
And I will always love you
I will always love you
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have you all dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness
But of all this, I wish you love"
"I Will Always Love You"
excellent poem. i feel what you say. i know those questions so well. reading these lines is like the script of my life. except that i'm, you know, a guy and all.
she asks because she fears her voice speaking the answer she knows.
she cries beacause it grounds her. the tears are real. they're stability in a world of change.
she keeps trying to make the connection because that's what lonely people do.< !signature-->
We all got somethin' we need to atone for.
well, I know where this is coming from.
this is one of many strong and soul searching poems from you of late ...
your writing has grown so much ...
as has your awareness of your heart and
what it wants.
you already know what I believe the answers to these questions are...
but i dont pretend to know all the reasons ...
but i do know...
everything happends for a reason ...
time will tell
stay strong and patient amy-girl...
somethings are worth waitng for.
love ya girl
Amy, I echo what Janet says here and add that this is a wonderful expressive poem from you... and I like the Whitney song as well...
Take Care and my regards,
I liked this also. I do not fall "in love" easily but I find I care deeply for those I have met. One day you will meet the person to share your life with.
