Junk Mail Blues

Just a sittin' here a singing
the junk mail blues
It's making me kinda crazy,
how about you?

It started many years ago
when I moved away from home
my own mail box was proudly
painted with green and gold

At first it was just the bills
that I had somehow acquired
then one day ordered a magazine
Oh, no, too late, but now I am wiser

They sell your name and your age
and your shopping habits on a page
if you buy lipstick through the mail
cosmetic magazines come in with your bills

Soon my "snail box" is filled to the brim
piled in papers - advertisements over my head
and no matter where I complain, I just can't win

Just a sittin' here a singing
the junk mail blues
It's making me kinda crazy,
how about you?

As I grow older and my fame is far and wide
I think I have a chance to win
a junk mail ribbon to show off with pride

They will wrap it up, all green and blue
my name printed ever so neatly, too
and they'll send it to me by mail

Just a sittin' here a singing
the junk mail blues
It's making me kinda crazy,
how about you?

I think the only thing to do is ambush the postman before he delivers the post and refuse to take the junk mail off of him and then demand that he returns the junk mail to the addresses they came from. It is worth a try.

a great poem. The best thing about e-mail is that you can stop people sending you e-mails, which is why, I guess, they don't send bills through e-mail.

Aw, Thank you, Claire

Oh, but Bryan in America they do send
bills to you through email and you can
even pay bills by email now to some places

Soon paypal will become international -
pay by mail, bill by mail --- oh isn't email
grand? Ahum, since I get about 600 email
perday, just how do you stop it? I block
many, and it goes to trash, but then my
email rings and ---it rings to tell me
I have deleted items.  Isn't that sweet?

In my little town, we all
have p.o. boxes as there
are no home deliveries.

We walk in and open the
box, get the snail mail
and on the way back out
the door there is a huge
trash bin sitting there
and everyone drops all
the junk-mail into it.

I asked the post-mistress
why she doesn't just cut
out the middle man and
throw the junk away herself
and she said it was against
postal regulations...that
they have to deliver ALL mail.

I think we ought to be able to
hang a sign for snail mail that
says"no junk allowed!"

Yes...we can get email bills...
Every month the bill for my
ISP arrives in my email and
even tells me how many hours
I have been on the computer.

Loved your poem!

Ha Ha Ha....Love this one Netswan.  Half of our garbage bill is "junk mail".... I've tried telling them that no one by the name of "resident" lives here, but they insist on delivering it anyway.  Guess I'll name my next dog that and have him tell them, I would guess that if he can get mail, he could be a deduction on income tax!  Bonnie
