Shadows

Shadows dancing on the wall
changing with the eerie light
making pictures of many things
images etched in shadowed halls

shadows moving on the wall
maybe old lace or a ghostly face
weaving pictures your hand can't trace
silently passing down shadowed halls

soon moonlight filters in
altering shadows once again
sleepy eyes follow the shadow dance
wondering what would happen perchance

If the shadowed etchings were really real
and the secrets of the walls were revealed
written gracefully by shadowed ink
leaving you lying in bed trying to think

What are the shadows trying to write
while in the bed you cringe in fright?
Do all these etchings mean a thing
or do they leave it to your imaginings?

Shadows come and Shadows go
As does the imagery of your mind
which stalks, in fearful shadows
through the night, the shadows of time

This has a lovely flow and reminds of my childhood fears of the dark...

It's amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and you lose it all ...
And it's unnerving
(How one move just puts me by myself)
There you go just trusting someone else
(Now I know I put us both through hell) ...
I'm not sayin
That there was nothing wrong
(I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me)
And I'm not sayin
(We ever had the right to hold on)
(I just didn't wanna let you get away from me)

She says baby,
It's 3AM ... I must be lonely,
When she says baby,
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes,
Says the rains gonna wash away I believe it.

This poem brought me back to spending the night at my Grandma's house when I was 5 or 6.  I always had to sleep in my Uncle Curtis's room, which was painted black and filled with crucifixes (he was brain-injured, and, of course, not in the room when I was sleeping there).  Anyway, it was a great poem with wonderful imagery.  I know it will be a poem that I find myself thinking about when I'm trying to go to sleep at night. good rhyme scheme. i thought of the night light just down the hall from my bedroom door. the poem paints a creepy Poe-esque picture. i dig it.

Made me think of  when you
have clothes hanging over
the back of the chair in
your room...and your
imagination sees all sorts
of scary things in the drape
and folds of the
material...in the dark!

Good read.  You have been missed!

Very, very nice   Shadows, clouds....it's amazing how our imagination can fashion them into whatever our mind sees and remembers. Good thoughts here......

netswan,

If those shadows and walls coud talk, they'd speak volumes.  Great writing my friend.  I have missed you here.
