Today I walked on distant hill,
...green valleys all around,
In shadows of the setting sun,
...I was on holy ground,
As stood amid the goldenrod,
...I saw the days of yore,
Heard on the winds the mournful tale,
...of wandering troubadour.
Tall battlements, stone castle walls,
...stood against the sky,
Scenes of Gauls and Visigoths,
...at war in times gone by,
Chivalry and armored knights,
...joust on noble steed,
King Arthur sits at table round,
...and drinks of honeyed mead,
Damsals fair in towers high,
...handmaidens at their feet,
Sing out to their Lochinvars,
...in voices meadowsweet.
Then from afar, a tolling bell,
...vespers that I hear,
Calling out for my return,
...from days of yesteryear,
Upon my soul, a warm content,
...as ended mind's estray,
As I walked down a distant hill,
...at end of perfect day.

Mike, I don't know what all this voting's about yet, but I'd vote for THIS poem anytime...   This is dreamy, dear.

Utter perfection!  What a vivid and stunning scene this paints...wonderful work!

Was not going to reply to slowly slide into oblivion, but felt the need to acknowledge your very generous reply Alwye. I truly thank you for you comment and I am glad you enjoyed.
