No Promises
Amy M. Kennedy
i long to be with you, forever in your arms
forever i want to love you, escape from it all
you love me, but are not in love with me
so my heart has begun its journey...fall fall fall

i knew the stakes going in
but i don't control my heart
you didn't hurt me i hurt myself
i don't want us to fall apart

you were never mine to begin with
no promises did you make
everyday i fall harder
i can't sleep, just lay here wide awake

thoughts of you and i
drift lazily through my mind
and i'm taken to
a more simpler place and time

i'm told take this one day at a time
so i pretend, can do it with the best
just friends, is that what you want?
feel like my heart is being given a test

when i tried to let you go
you cried out in pain
said i broke your heart
now im the one left in the rain

i knew this wouldn't be easy
it all happened so fast
the future and present
blur together with the past

i am not mad at you
i could never be
do i let you go or hold on tight
keep you as mine, or let you take flight

you don't want me to free you
pulling yourself closer to me
so i close my eyes and wish again
that our love will last all eternity

*sorry not one of my best. i got a lot of tangled feelings im dealing with. my writing isn't at its peak.

Amy, never apoligise for feelings from the heart.  It sounds like you got wrapped up in relationship where you knew the stakes, but didn't want to have to deal with it.  A great many of us have been there.  Good luck and take care.

On the contrary Aimster..  Your writing is spectacular.  I know these feelings that you are experiencing all to well.  Giving you your advice back, follow your heart.  It will never steer you wrong.  No apologies necessary.  Excellent work!!  I wish you the best on your journey..

The feelings are still there Amy and the reader can appreciate them. God bless you for making the effort to put them into words. Words come hard through emotional down times. Keep up the good work!

I agree with MysticalNights, sometimes thoses feelings whicha re closest to our hearts are the hardest to express, though the words don't come easily it helps to push the pain on to the pain. Wonderfully written,  excellent poem.

It's amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and you lose it all ...
And it's unnerving
(How one move just puts me by myself)
There you go just trusting someone else
(Now I know I put us both through hell) ...
I'm not sayin
That there was nothing wrong
(I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me)
And I'm not sayin
(We ever had the right to hold on)
(I just didn't wanna let you get away from me)

It's 3AM ... I must be lonely,
When she says baby,
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes,
Says the rains gonna wash away I believe it.

And writing is one of the best ways to deal with tangled emotions...

Personally I think this is great....

Amy,

So sorry to read this one....so sad.  I am sure you are having many emotions right now...all at once.  Keep on writing...it will help you sort them out.  Take care.
