So strange how friendships ebb and flow,
Some staying true, more merely shallow.

I once was one of a group of friends,
Now it all slowly has come to an end,
Do I miss them? Of course, though it seems,
That these friendships meant much less to them than to me.
Does it hurt? Yes, it does, an empty space left,
That each one occupied within this now bereft
Mind full now only of memories fond,
Of promises made, and of broken bonds,
Through knowing them, though, knowledge I've gained,
So all is not lost, yet there is still the pain,
And the wishing for time to turn itself back,
Perhaps then I could fix what went wrong, what we lacked.

I doubt that I will ever completely forget,
The comraderie felt within that safety net.

Syntax,

Welcome to Passions!  You chose a fine first entry, one which I truly enjoyed.  Friends grow and sometimes grow apart.  I often miss the security of my old friends as well.  The ones who are true never really leave and those who do have still helped make who you are today.
Again, welcome.  I trust you will make some new friends here.

Trew.

I have been to see the world. Tasted life at every turn.
And all the time your face came back to haunt me.

~Oh,...this is so honest and right from the heart it seems.  Good to hear you atleast say that although there is pain, that all is not lost. Very wise of you to take from it and learn.  Hold onto your memories and know that all we meet and share a part of our life with help to shape the person we are today. Lovely poem. Thank you for sharing this piece of you. Take care. *Peace.

*BTW,...please excuse my rudeness,...I failed to mention that I welcome you here.  Goodness me.  WELCOME!!!  .

You are well come, indeed -- I echo the greeting extended by my comrades ...

What caught my attention in this piece was the initial image established in the first two lines -- the analogy of friendship as a body of water -- "ebb amd flow ... some merely shallow."

I admit that I was expecting to see that image developed in the following stanza, but even so, the remainder of the verse was well-constructed and deserving of the accord here offered.  I look forward to reading your future works ...

Syntax~
Welcome to Passion's friendly family.
Yes, it would seem that some friendships
'ebb and flow' .... but the nicest thing
about the tide of friendship is that it
often returns in waves that will sweep
us off our feet.

Cherish the friendships and keep within
their warm waters.

welcome to passions! this is a wonderful
first piece and way to enter the forum.
friendships come and go, but the memories
always remain. take from the good, and
let go of the bad. i know easier said than
done. but that is what i have learned in
life...the little i do know
beautiful work.
take care.

Syntax,

Welcome to Passions!!!  Friends are those rare people who stick by you no matter what may come.  They are wonderful.  Treasure those memories.  If they are your true friends, they are never far....only a phone call away.  Nice one for your first post.  Looking forward to more.

Syntax, Much feeling is felt within your words, Although these lost friends dont seem to be the sort of friends that you need, I am sorry for your sadness, But look forward and see the new friendships you can make and keep Welcome to passions

Welcome to Passion Syntax!  You've expressed the emotions of growing apart in frienships very beautifully.  Such sadness can be felt in your words, and yet such beauty in the memories ... well done!

Best wishes,
/Kit
