state of confusion

Sarah

As she kissed me goodbye,
her long limbed potential
struck me for the first time
in the swinging of bare arms
and the too-short purple dress.

She’s the new kid at school,
can’t call her baby anymore.
I watched as I walked away,
tears stinging,
then she turned and pointed
at a girl with a hula-hoop,
her hands moving clock-wise,
and I realized she’ll be fine.

Corinne,
this one is too deep for me...
I think I get it, but maybe not...

The anxieties of an elder (are you a school teacher by the way?) when a new kid joins the school, whether 'Sarah' here will be able to get together with other kids etc... are being portrayed...

But I also see the comparison of Sarah to a new phase of life in the character of the poem, that (she) tentatively starts up worried whether things will be alright or not...

Forgive me if I am blowing my top here, but please explain if I am wrong...

Thanks.
Regards, sudhir

Corinne, a lovely poem. wonderful. I hope her first day of school went well.

Corinne, what a lovely reminder of a child's first day at a new and different school.  Your phrasing is something I recall so well...where DID all of that lankiness come from?

It seems each day they take another step away from your arms.  Hopefully, in doing so, she will take a step closer to your wisdom.
A moment well captured.

Many thanks, Corazon, Brian, Sunshine, Aimster Kit and Trew.

Sudhir, Sarah is my daughter and was at school for the fist time, and in a flash I realized how she was changing before my eyes.

This is great, Corinne. That is a very scary event. We all know that every child except ours is a monster!!!! The poem, and I'm sure, your daughter are precious.

What a sweet memory you've
stored away for recall.
Wonderful visions presented here, little Mommy.

Beautifully portrayed, Corinne.  I remember those times so clearly, and the tears came, as well.

Yes, Corinne.  She'll be fine.  They do tend do grow up on us.  Their hair grows, too.
