*special thanks to edward, brad, "underground boxing clubs", project mayhem, but most sincerely to Tyler Durden. couldn't have done this without your inspiration.*

who is Jack?
a portrait of Jack as told by his 2000 parts
inspired by Tyler Durden

i am Jack's wasted life.

i am Jack's gray and cloudy cataract. the sights i filter in are not happy and proud. But they are so much brighter than the darkness i writhe in.
i am Jack's tired feet. i am tired of running to the end of a tunnel that runs faster than me.
i am Jack's raging hate. i pound frustrated knuckles against a stubborn doorframe.
i am Jack's shallow breathing. i am conditioned to know that i can not go deeper because of the weight there on my chest.

i've screwed up again.i've done something wrong.
i am a failure.

i am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
i am Jack's weary ear drums. i bleed from the ranting that has grown into a ceaseless drone.
i am Jack's bruised knees. i buckle and chatter not in Fear, but in Anticipation.
i am Jack's wondering hope of a better place with good smiles. i glimmer in Jack's eye beyond the cataract.
i am Jack's bleeding knowledge. i bleed because that sensation is Real. like what i know. like what i am told. like Life.

i am Jack's wasted life.
because i can only be what i am told i am.

ethan,
this poem's honesty both disturbs me and touches me...
I have not seen this movie, forgive me and my woman instincts...
but i cant watch those images.
So i read this twice on its own merit--
and what I took from it(my interprtation)
and then I asked my son who has seen the movie to fill me in on the background.
I was also thinking about a couple of your other poems ive read...

many lines in this effect me..
but the last one more so...
you already know i disagree..
we can break free from those chains and those
dark places...
we are not defined by anothers verbal abuse
I ve been there, i know
it is possible to rise above it
sometimes we may need a little help to do it
but it can be done.
I also saw lines of hope and glimmers of light in some of these lines...
so i know you know this too
i hope i have read the poem as you intended it
take care my friend

And it's good that I'm not angry,
I just need to get over,
I'm not angry, anymore
Cry when you cry,
run when you run,
love when you love,
represent the ashes
that you leave behind

serenity- thanks for the honesty. it means a lot.

spit fire- it's always nice to meet a fellow fan. people said that movie sucked, but i understood it, loved it, touched it... i don't know. i felt it. it made sense!!!

JM- the movie opened me up and opened the world for me in a manner i'd never seen. i was inspired to write about the Jack that "Tyler" showed me.

feelin' fine. =)
