Well the olympic torch passes by today,
Only two blocks from where I live,
Dylan and I shall go to see it,
A part of history to receive.

Dating back hundreds of years,
The concept alone is astounding,
And finally I shall witness something quite historic,
A golden memory rebounding.

I'm short only 5ft 4,
And hope I get close enough to see,
And to take a picture,
Of my little part in history.

Seriously this is probably,
The most globally significant thing,
That has ever happened to me,
Only wonder will it bring.

So today old Isis will see the blazing olympic torch,
And stand in awe like everyone else,
Respecting the principles the olympics stand for,
Partake in a special moment in the world's history.

I think Zeus himself will be smiling,
When he witnessess the olympics Aussie style,
He'll share all the competitors highs and lows,
For we all feel and understand that olympic pride..

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Ah, Isis, simple things like that, putting us in touch with tradition and the rich heritage of our history, are truly the richest experiences we can feel. ENJOY....and thank you for having it mean so much to you.

Thanks Marge and Balladeer!!
Balladeer I love anything steeped in tradition and history

It went a little further so I'll add a short poem here...

We saw the olympic torch,
Children and adults alike were cheering,
And further up the road,
I saw an opportunity for a photo that would be enduring..

They changed torches and flames just around the corner,
I jogged up and photographed the exchange,
Then saw an opportunity,
That I could probably arrange.

I asked the young teenage girl,
If she would mind,
If I photograph her and my son with the torch,
Some extra special memories to leave behind.

She said that wouldn't be a problem,
And she would go one little bit better,
Together she and Dylan could hold the torch,
That would be a photo to remembe.

So together they held the torch,
The runner and my son,
I was so thrilled for him,
Took two quick shots and was done.

Well that is a lie,
I briefly touched the thing myself,
A little bit of history,
I wanted a part of myself.

Dylan was so excited,
And I was thrilled for him,
And I said this is just the beginning,
He could have a life of wonders waiting for him.

So that is our brief look at the olympic torch,
Well worth standing in the freezing wind,
A special memory that will last both our lifetimes,
Our brief brush with olympic history...

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Great poem dear Isis, wonderful to have the Olympics in our country, unfortunately I will not be there in person but I'll be darn sure to be watching them on the box.
What wonderful memories you and your son will have of the torch relay

The Olympics...Aussie style! What more could you want.    It will be a great memory! Thanks for sharing the moment.

We won't be there either for the games are in Sydney but we'll be watching on TV and this way it made it a little bit more real for Dylan, and for that matter all Aussies that get to see the torch!
