I died last week,
No bells were rang,
No dirges sang,
Laid to rest in pine coffin bare,
Not one to care,
Empty street,
At fifty feet,
Hot summer sun,
A blazing gun,
In burst of flame,
Called out my name.
I was quicker,
But for the liquor,
Hit his arm,
Did little harm,
He did not miss,
I felt death's kiss,
As on my back,
The sky went black,
I died last week.

Should we feel sympathy for the man who invites death?

Still, You managed to paint a tragic portrait of a man who lived by the gun and died by the gun. excellent poem, Mike.

It's a sham, and I'm conditioned to accept it all, you see" six by Paul Draper.
