I sit in the darkness
In the silence of the night
Next to you.
Holding my knees tight to my chest
And wondering
Why?
With so much love to give
Why give it all to me?
And I can find no answer

The smoke from my cigarette
Paints swirls of shadows
Across your sleeping face
And I wonder
How?
With all that you give to me
Can I offer you anything
That will compare?
And I can give no reply.

Then as the first light of dawn
Shows the highlights in your hair
And the softness of your skin
There is only one answer I can offer
That if the world should keep us together
Or if it should tear us apart
You will have my love
My hopes and dreams
My soul
And even though we may not
Always be together
If you close your eyes
And think of me
You are never alone.

What a wonderful piece!!  It's the kind of poem every woman would want wrote to her.  Great Job!!

Trew~
Sometimes life gives us blessings
and we cannot count high enough to
reach the appreciation of them.
Just enjoy that she's there ..
don't question the why's ...
chances are ...
it's because she wants to be.

Beautifully done.

Trew,

Wonderful poem.  So well written.  I am with Marge here...do not question why.  Just enjoy the time that you have with her.  Only fate knows how long that will be.  I just love the ending...

If you close your eyes
And think of me
You are never alone.

That just says it all.  Great work!!

Why is it that when we are wondering, we always sit in that same position?     Anytime I'm in deep thought, I sit like that, with my knees tight against my chest.....*sigh*  This was just beautiful.  Nothing like watching a lover sleep.....Tender moments like that should never be taken for granted.  Very well done sir!

A very beautiful view....the feelings expressed were awesome, not taking love for granted once we have it is something we all need to be reminded of now and then...thank you for sharing this~

I'm overwhelmed that I have so many positive reponses.  This is wonderful; to be able to share with others.

Tennessee Angel:
Thank you.  It's something that I've tried to say many times, but have only written.

Marge:
I enjoy her being there every day.  It's more that I'm amazed, than really questioning. You are so right about our blessings.  Thanks for taking time for me.

Kit:
Thanks so much.  I try to capture one feeling at a time.  Glad you enjoyed it!

Lone Wolf:
Fate indeed!  I'll just enjoy it minute by minute.  Good advice!  Thanks for writing.

brian:
I shall, but I can't shake the awe that she inspires.  Thanks...

Jeffrey:
Oh, man! I pride myself a romantic, but Sir Sven?  Whoaa!! Whoaa!!!!
I am severely flattered!  Thanks for reading and the enormous compliment!

Amy:
I'm so glad you liked my writing. Thank you!
And I'm glad you took my comments into thought.  Be well.

pFF:
I've wondered the same thing. I love nothing more than to watch a lover sleep.  I think you see their true beauty.  Thank you so much for your response!

Butterflies:
How very true.  There are too many things that are taken for granted.  Love should be the least of them.  Thank you.

kitkat:
Oh no!  Not you too!! lol
Really, I am humbled.  I'm glad I could give you a little something.  I feel I've taken so much already. Thanks for everything.

And all the time your face came back to haunt me.
