They called him a loner...a misfit and a reject.
There was something about him they just could not accept.

So they turned their backs and closed their eyes.
And, blindly, they went on with their lives.

I can't help but wonder what it was about the man.
There must have been something they just could not stand.

Was it the love in his eyes? Or the beauty in his face?
Could it be the promises he gave of a Heavenly place?

Tell me if you know...what made them hate him so?
Was it because he promised he would never let us go?

Was it the kindness in his hands?  Maybe the mercy in his heart?
The assurance he gave us that we would never be apart?

Could it be they were afraid of a man so full of light?
Were they really more secure in the darkness of the night?

All he ever wanted was to love them endlessly.
To let them know he would save them from the raging sea.

But they had no faith. They told him no.  They pushed him away.
They didn't run to him for cover when the skies were turning grey.

They tried to solve their problems and do it on their own.
He would beg them to come but they left him all alone.

He would whisper to their hearts and ask them to draw near.
But they would turn away and pretend they did not hear.

And I cry...down my face roll tears of shame.
Not for them, but because sometimes...I treat him just the same.

TennesseeAngel~
This is a poignant piece.
Fortunately for us ...
He doesn't hold us up to as close
a criticism as we give ourselves.
He understands ... and always says
'I forgive'.

Beautiful writing, my friend.
Touched my heart.

Tennessee Angel,

True so true.  We always seem to look to Him in times of trouble, but how many of us remember Him when things are going well in our lives.  Not many.  Yet, He is always there for us no matter what comes...with His love and acceptance.  Great piece.

~TA
this was a VERY moving and emotional
piece. you certainly tugged at my
heartstrings. i often ask myself the same
questions. alas, i have as little of the
answers as you do. but i think that is how
HE wants it to be. as for the last stanza
of your poem, i think Marge is right. HE
doesn't judge us near as hard as we judge
ourselves. HE accepts us for what we are,
both good and bad. Now if only mandkind
could do the same for one another. hmmm
excellent poem. take care.

Marge --  Thank you for such a lovely response.  Sometimes I just have to remind myself that He always forgives, no matter what.  What an awesome God we serve.

Lone Wolf -- Thank you for your kind response!  It's always nice to meet more of God's people.

Aimster --  Oh, if we could accept others the way our Lord accepts us.  What a wonderful world this would be.

Butterflies -- I am so glad that you enjoyed my work here.  It truly comes from the heart.
