You were my rock, standing strong and true
When did things change and go astray
Everything I know I basically learned from you
Things just seemed to fall apart that day

I want to believe things are the same
And I wish for a simpler time
But this is cold reality, whose to blame?
You make me feel like I'm committing a crime

You built me up so high, you never asked me
Thinking my hopes and dreams were the same as yours
And now I have something in my life, that I will fight for
You do not approve, you want to slam the door

I love you so much, you are my Dad
But for the first time in my life, I feel free
You try to make things hard, make me feel bad
And it makes me wonder, do you even see the real me

If you would listen, you would understand
I am the daughter you always wanted me to be
But this is reality, we aren't in fairy-tale land
Wishing we could bridge this gap, and you could see.

Because once you're there
It's up to you to make it happen."

If your dad is still on this earth, be glad and smile...my dad left me many years ago when I was but 23 and I miss him so...forgive him if he needs forgiving, love him if he does not seem to love you, and never give up hope...thanks for sharing your feelings tonight.

Amy~
Hon, just try to remember that
Dad's have problems adjusting too.
Do stand up for what you believe in ...
he will admire that in the long run.
Just don't let it pull you two apart.
Be understanding and I hope it will
work out for you to get close again
with your dad.
*HUGS* to you, little friend.
Love you~

Amy,

Before I light my pipe, let me say that your poem was beautiful.  It did give me a sense of frustration and bewilederment.
~light pipe here~
Now, we men have been know to be a little stubborn on occasion.  Try to remember, that for as long as he is with you in your life, you will forever be his little girl; you will probably forever be his life, and nothing will be good enough for you, in his eyes.  From someone who has been there, please be patient with him.

Good luck, Amy.

Trew.

I have been to see the world. Tasted life at every turn.
And all the time your face came back to haunt me.

I think many a "little girl" has experienced this with their father at one time or another Amy, you've expressed this well and brought back memories for me (please check your e-mail shortly). Excellent expression and writing Amy.

Best wishes,
/Kit

lots of good advice on this page amy-girl
Trew speaks with wisdom ...
letting go is very hard for parents,
your dad had to "let go for two"...
i know its hard to try to live up to their
perfect little girl expectations ...
but his motives are of love...
patience, and communication and understanding is they key.
most parents love unconditionally, in the end.
we just want our kids to be happy...
sometimes it takes us awhile to see YOUR
dreams in place of OUR dreams that we had for you.
give him this poem, it can be a starting point to helping him see who you are now
love ya
