it seemed like you were never there
i always thought you didn't care.
when i hit my 1st home run in the park
you missed seeing in my eyes that glowing spark.

then when i was 10 you didn't get to see
that brand new bike that Santa brought me.
i always believed Santa was for real,
but it was really mom behind the whole deal.

i was 12 when that camping trip went bad,
all the other kids were having fun with their Dad's.
trying not to show my hurting that way
so i ran away the very next day.

i think i was gone for a whole 3 hours
all i did was stay in a cave and cower.
afraid of what all the other kids thought of me
to them a kid without a dad is all they would see.

growing up without a dad is extremely hard,
no one to play pass with in the back yard.
atleast i had a parent who didn't go anywhere
which is more then i can say for you, atleast for my life mom was there.

I totally understand where you're coming from... I grew up not knowing my father at all, and it's taken its toll on me now. I wish I could tell you it gets better, or you'll slowly forget him, but I can't because I haven't see it happen to me yet. All I can suggest is writing down everything you feel, because it's sure helped me. Great poem otherwise, it has gotten me to think again, about how lucky I am to have my mother. =)

Reading this... kind of allows me to appreciate my own father even more.  He's rarely anything worthwhile, usually he spends his time drinking, but he spends the other time working to maintain the household, so I respect him there.  I know that he sets a great example for me to avoid.  Ironically, without him I would probably be a lot more like him!
Whoops... this wasn't supposed to be about me!  Great poem, the absence of a father obviously allowed you to love your mother ever so much more.  This poem effectively portrays how you felt at one time, as opposed to how you feel now.

It sounds like you have really wanted your dad to be around and it has changed you because he was not, but at least you do have your mother.  I think the poem expressed your feelings well, great job on it

This showed a lot of emotion. Having to cope without a father in life must be really hard. It makes you strong though, and you are a strong person for posting this for us and expressing yourself openly. Great job on this.

I have to say, this poem meant a lot to me.  My dad or should I say "father" was never there for me.  I'm 15 years old and I've only seen him 5 times...the first time was when I was 10.  I'm trying to make an effort to see him now, but he doesn't like my family so he won't.  I understand totally how you feel.  He has missed my life, and in a blink of an eye, it's all going to be gone.  Wonderful poem.  I give it 5 stars ***** and more!

Val this is so sad but I can sorta relate. My dad had a debilitating stroke three years ago plus he lives over 100 miles away, so he's been missing a lot, too. Because he has to, really... But it's great to have a supportive mother who's always there   Good work

This is really sad
Right now, I don't know how to react to the poem
It has affected my feelings real hard right now
I'm so sorry you have to go thru this
I know how you feel though, my dad wasn't around too, though mine was around once in a while
He never attended anything important to me and it hurts
One thing it has done for me though is it has made me sooooo close to my mom and i think that is special...you should too
thanks for the share
keep ya head up
