Etch These Years
~*Marge Tindal*~

Etch these years on the pages of your memories
for they will never come your way again.
On some forgotten Sunday in May,
you may want to revisit them.

Each day affords you some small opportunity
to record the day for recall.
Somewhere down the pleasured road,
you will want to remember them all.

Let no one tell you
the thoughts that you maintain,
don't matter worth a pea-winkle durn,
for they will be wrong once again.

Write them and tuck them away
in the cedar closets of your mind.
Some forgotten Sunday in May,
you will look and you will recall
that every thought that was ever yours
mattered most of all.

Let the year of 2001 find you each and every one
penning your thoughts of the day.
To share on some forgotten Sunday,
perhaps, light-years away.

*You are the poets of today's dreams
and tomorrow's destiny.*

JeremyD~ SugarPie~ LoveBug~ and DD~

You youthful poets have so much to say.
Make sure it is recorded for all time.
I was fortunate enough in my younger years
to have someone care enough to make sure I kept journals.
Oh, what a treasure they are to me this day.

I believe that the young poets of this land
are our greatest hope for the preservation
of the dreams they hold within their pens.
You can write the future and also record
what will one day become your legends.

Yes, oh yes, you are all worthy to be heard.
You are poets !
You WILL make a difference.

It's so wonderful to see you here Marge!  Thank you for these poignant New Year's sentiments ... they are so very true. I too, kept a journal, tucked all my poems away, and delight in reading them so many years later. Wise words my friend, loved these thoughts!

Best wishes,
/Kit

The problem is remembering the days you'd rather forget!  I guess even if you have to remember those to keep all of the great memories, it's still a great deal.  Thanks for the poems and Happy New Year!

Sometimes I wonder if I will make any impact at all. If it is worth it to even write...what kind of future will it give me anyway?
But it is true, that, in the end, I would die if I could not write. If I could not put to paper all the happiness and anguish and confusion I sometimes feel.
My future husband better have a poetic soul... and appreciate the art. Thank you for this poem....it shows that we are all appreciated.

I have to agree kinda with Lakewalker here ...  sometimes we don't want to remember these times in our lives...  but only some of them... I too have kept a journal for about 6-7 years and reading it brings back great memories...  sometimes not soo great but at least now I can look back at them and smile because back then I couldn't!!    Great Poem though, I loved it!!  It made me think a lot about things!!  THanks!!

Melz!!

GreenEyes~ Kit~ LakeWalker~ Ina~
JennC~ IsGona~ MikeyK~ Melster~

Thank you all so very much for reading my thoughts.

I would say that, yes, there are memories that are not necessarily
the most pleasant to look back on also written in my journals,
but the way I reacted to them and how they affected me
were most important in shaping who I am this day.

The main idea of my thoughts is to encourage you all to continue writing -
you will be so thankful to one day have that journal of memories to flip through.

Each and every situation that we face in life
gives us one more facet of who we become.

And I hope that each of you will one day remember
that a little 'ole' lady on a poetry site
told you it would be so. (Tee-Hee)

Keep on writing - I believe in you all !
