~ I will make no excuses, I suppose I've taken a break and I'm back.  Please be patient, and please read this, it means a lot to me.  Thank you ~

Remeber Me

It's been almost a year and a half
Since that phone call in June
That morning they told us
You wouldn't be coming home soon
I always knew you were special
Not like other people's grandpas
Remember that one year I thought your stereriods
Made you look like Santa Claus
I thought you'd live to see my wedding day
And you'd be there for graduation
Remember how I used to buy Nerds
At the naval gas station
No one's death ever hurt
As much as the death of you
Remember how you used to say that carrots
Would make my brown eyes turn blue
You didn't live to see my first formal dance
You didn't live to see me turn 14
You didn't live to meet my first boyfriend
I wonder if any of this you've seen
All the skin cancers
The emphyzemia from the stupid war
Strong and stubborn
But your heart wouldn't hold on anymore
I'll never forget holding your hand
Sitting at the edge of your hospital bed
Offended by the preacher
And the man who said it wouldn't be long until you're dead
Choking back sobs
While trying to tell you goodbye
Promised I'd be back tomorrow
Becuase I couldn't help but cry
I guess I should be okay with this by now
I guess I am but you see
I'll never forget you
But have you forgotten me

- In loving memory of 1st Sgt. William D. Deatherage-

Omg never ever think that he will forget you, that is the last thing that will happen. This was a very sad poem...my grandpa died 3 years ago and he didnt get to see me turn 14 or have my first b4 either..so i understand completely where your coming from. Its sad but its part of life..it was a beautiful poem and im shur that he's looking down on u.

I lost my grandfather at the age of 5, and I can really relate to some of the things that you say in this piece. You shouldn't say that he has forgotten you, though. It was just his time to go home, and I'm sure that he's looking at you with pride. Thanks for sharing.

He hasn't forgotten you and never will.  He will always be there with you in your memories and your heart.  You did a really good job of telling your feelings in the poem!< !signature-->

This was a great poem. The pain in this poem is evident and im sorry about your gramps. I know how that is........keep on writing!

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

Hey. I can't say that I know how you feel...I haven't lost my grandfather but I have lost friends. You did a really great job of helping me to see all the good things, along with the bad. Thank you for posting this.

Oh Isabel ... this was so touching. I'm so sorry for your loss, but you have such wonderful memories you've shared with us. No one is ever gone from our hearts as long as we remember them ... hugs to you ...

Best wishes,
/Kit
