What popularity did to me was so evil,
It made me forget about all the important people,
I threw away all my friends I had had forever,
All the ones who cared and loved me,
Would all my new friends be the same cuz im popular now?
All the people who like me cuz im popular,
They wont care when I get dumped,
They wont be there to care when I am lonely or sick,
All they want is to hang out with me cuz ive got popularity,
I get so mad when i think of all the friends i lost,
The ones who loved me and never left,
The ones who caried me home when i passed out at a party,
The ones who said to me Branden We love you,\
Those were the tru friends,
And that my friend is what you will loose if you search for POPULARITY.

Branden-have you gone back to your true friends now?  I like how you wrote this, it's really good.  There's some really wise words in this one.

Lakewalker, Ya thanks for the reply but in the end would you take me back? If i stoped talking to you, if i laughed at u just to be cool would u take me back? Most likely you wouldnt so no my true friends wont take me back and i refuse to go to the popular group.
so now all i can do is search for some true friends and hope my stupidity doesnt get in the way

I suppose it would depend on the situation, but I see your point.  I would like to think I could be forgiving if I was true friend, but I've never had to deal with this situation so my opinion comes with no experience which can make it about useless.  So I don't know what I would do.  But anyway, I still like the poem and I hope you can form new, true friendships.

You know i went through the same situation. See i have been in about 6 schools and i was "popular" in each school cept for the recent school at the time. I didn't much care but i have been on ALL sides of the popularity scale. From that one kid that had no friends, to the kid who had ALL the friends which is now. But what opened up my door was my GIRLFRIEND. I was a mediocre nobody who had a few friends......the "geeks"...but frankly i knew they were the coolest kids i've ever met. They are all artists like me and musicians like me. So i became POPULAR....wahoo right? WRONG....it's just stupid. I mean i have tons of friends now but the thing is......well i never at one moment left my original crowd. I don't have a specific group, i hang out with EVERYBODY, but i always had a group of 5 guys that i always went back to and went out with. THOSE were the true friends. The ones that would sleep over my house and make stupid puppet movies and talk about gal probs. Ya know? So what im saying is this: It's hard to balance our your time with one group of people and another and a girlfriend....but if i did it without hastle then you can. WORKING HARD is what you gotta do man. Don't give up and NEVER NEVER be a damn hypocrit and laugh at your true friends because IF you're GF leaves you, who's gonna be the ones to stick around and give you the time of day? Yea, well the ones who came to your head...stick with them.

adios!

Branden, great poem.  It is so true.  I can relate to this, but try not to go back there.  Just keep your head up if they are true friends they will be there always no matter what phase your in.  Thanx for the reply to my poem.

Branden, this is a great piece. I'm glad that you see things for what they really are, even if you think it's too late. You've learned an important lesson from this, and you've shared it with all of us. Thanks!

Ok, it's my turn to give my point of view. I'm one of those guys that have no social status, and I have two friends, one is a guy just like me (he is almost my brother) and the other is a popular girl. She betrayed me once, I was having some problems and she just walked away... she said she couldn't handle more problems. I was so mad at her, I didn't speak to her for almost a year. But, one night she called me, she was in tears and she told me she broke up with her boyfriend. So she asked me for help and I just had to help her. She was my best friend and I'm the only one she truly trust.
So... why am I saying this, I think that those guys, your old and true friends will forgive you. If they are your friends, they will forgive you.
Also, as you said, another thing I learned with your poem is that I have many many true friends, and all of them are here. Even though we live on the other side of the world, I feel closer to you than to most of my "friends" here. So, I also wanted to thank, all of you, 'cause you have helped me a lot. Thanks,
Your friend,
Caz

It's been raining since you left me.

Ahhhh. Popularity, Vreni’s soapbox.  Popularity is nothing more than a pre-fabricated mindset for weak-minded hordes.  (Thus, one can be popular among people without possessing the mindset, though the occurrence of this is very rare and takes a unique situation.)  Take a moment and reflect on the nature of the average High Schooler  - in a time period where most are very unsure of themselves, they are searching for an identity and control over their topsy- turvy lives.  The reaction?  Seek out those that are carbon copies of one’s self, a type of self-assurance syndrome.  Thus, we have a mini-society of cliques that become centrifuged into different layers of the social hierarchy.  People in the social favor of these cliques, whom match the group’s thought patterns, life style etc. identically (or appear to, perhaps, in light of pretending), these are those who become “popular”.   Popularity by it’s very nature expects it’s victims to alter their core beliefs, themselves, to become what it (being popularity) would like them to be – as non-individual as possible.  Furthermore, popularity rapes its victims of the opportunity for creative individual expression. Many times, they find themselves thrust into the grips of the “cruel real world” only to realize that they have internally re-constructed themselves so many times that they are unable to differentiate what they truly believe and what Popularity has forcibly instilled within.  Indeed.   Well, I’ll stop there, I must be off to my Neuropsychology class.  Ta ta.

A Loser and Proud,
Vreni
