A sea of them, and I know it can't be good.
I realize that out of a thousand,
nine hundred and ninety-nine will use, abuse, or break me.
A person with such an impact upon me, it is he who will hurt me the most.

He will politely lie to me, he will silently curse me.
He will wait til he gets what he wants, then get tired and leave.
He will scare me, and worry me, and tell me he's perfect for me.
He disarms me... he dissapoints me.

This is how the crowd will be, almost all out to get me,
Nearly all out to scar me...
Why must I let them continue to sting me?
I allow them to steal my heart and life.

Then there is that one...
The one left out of a thousand, that may be pefect for me,
Oh, but it is he I do not deserve.
He needs someone with less pain, less abuse in her past, less baggage to travel with.... I deserve more than I have, but less than he offers.

* not my best.... just came up suddenly and from my heart.

This is a wonderful piece. But don't ever think that you don't deserve the best. Don't settle for anything below what you know you deserve. Best of luck!

hey Jenn, I believe that no matter who the person is, he/she deserves the best they could get.  No one can say I'm too good for you to anyone.  But everyone can say that himself/herself may not be good enough for the other one.  kindda confusing, but keep readin it.  You'll eventually get it

"I deserve more than I have, but less than he offers."

Oh Jenn ... powerful emotions from the heart here. Very expressive and a lovely flow.  Never feel you deserve less than 100% from someone. Our pasts, our baggage ... it all comes along with us, all wrapped up in a neat little bundle. To take it away would change the person we have become ... the person whom they'll grow to love, 100%, baggage and all, for that's who we each are.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Thank you Kit. And everyone else... I guess writing is best from the heart, and our baggage is part of who we have become.... it doesn't mean I wouldn't do anything to lighten the load.
