they say these tensions
have long since faded
here in Amereica.

Is that why I saw two of
you pigs harrasing two men
in the maryland countryside
out near my ex-girlfriend's house.

Where they doing anything wrong?
Or were they just black.

Is that why,
out by the highway,
two of you pigs
tried for an hour
to prove my guilt
for a made up felony.

Was there really anything wrong?
Or am I just hispanic.

Is that why,
when I went to Miami,
on my spring break
twelve of you pigs
just stood by
as a lone protestor
was beaten down by fifty people
out in front of Elian's house.

Was everything all in order?
or were those fifty just the same race as you.

Very well expressed emotions here. I think racial relations definitly need to be improved in America.  Thanks for the chance to read this, it's great to know there are people out there who care and are great at writing about important issues.

thanks you two for reading my poem, and responding. I'm glad you liked it.
I starting noticing this kind of thing relatively recently, within the last two years.

i know how you feel....it's tough and as much as we like to think all men are treated equal in this country they aren't....
life is unfair where ever you go!

Jose- To tell u the truth...all we got left is hope. I hope everyday of my life than when I walk out into the street, people don't look and stare cause I'm different. No blonde hair and blue eyes here. And I'm half scared to death that I'd be attacked like others I know because of their culture or religion. There's always gonna be this thing that makes America unjust no matter what way you look at it, but where would we go? I wonder that everyday of my life. Too bad it couldn't be differnt.

Salma~ there's always more than hope. Action. we can all take steps to be kinder and more accepting, and to remind others to do the same.

Also just yesterday, there was a massive gathering of people here in Washington dc trying to end racial profiling by police

There's an artice in Parade magazine (it comes in our Sunday paper) written by Bill Bradley (former Senator and presidential candidate).  It's called "It's Time to Fulfill Our Promise" and it's mostly about encouraging people to not only accept our nation's diversity but to embrace it.  I thought it was a great article and maybe coming out and publicizing opinions and feelings in the media will help things.  Jose you are right, you can't just sit around and hope things will change, you have to speak out and make them change.  It's all about action.

I don't live in America, but this poem has made me alot more wiser..there's racism in our police force here in the UK too..it's just been 'noticed'. Great insightful poem

And forcing our darkest souls to unfold...
And pushing us into self-destruction...."

Dark one~ I never knew that about the UK. I thought that there was more racial tolerance over there, seeing as how they abolished slavery in the 1830's. Also Mike Tyson, as famous boxer wanted to move there because he said that blacks were treated better over there.

Lakewalker~ I don't mind if you bump this up

If there is one thing in this world that I hate it is discrimination.  You displayed very accurately some of the emotions I have felt myself.  I don't much care for the Pigs either.

Racism is a race all onto itself.   Do you run the race of racism, by this poem I know your taste.  What a horrible thing to waste, definitely not in good taste, this race of racism.
