A few years ago, I suffered from an eating disorder, and nobody ever noticed. That made my disorder even worse, it made me think that nobody cared, or I just wasn't even losing the weight. Eventually, my best friend realized it, and helped me pull myself out of the hole. Nobody else ever knew, until I was almost better. But I will never be fully recovered, it's almost impossible. But anyway, I was going through an old shoebox from under my bed, and I found this poem... I don't think I finished it, but I'm not sure. Let me know what you think    Thanks

Send strength to the suffering child
With the arm that is too white and thin
She does not know the pain others suffer
She only knows the pain she has within
This child is longing for faith and hope
As she studies her figure while crying
"Too much extra fat covering the bones,"
She does not know how badly she's lying
The child wishes to have a lower weight
Yet meanwhile she is wasting away
Her mind tells her to eat and than eat more
She forces it back up many times a day
This child has no strength in herself
She does not know what else to do
Nobody talks about her tiny body
Which is too boney, entirely through
She suffers yet is satisfied all at once
And she shudders at another's touch
Not a soul dares to mention their concern
They claim to be worried, but how much?
She is torn between two desicions
Will the choice she makes be right?
She may remain at the plank forever
As her life disappears from sight
Please, get her help, I pray
She suffers, wake up, don't you see?
I beg of you, stop being so selfish
From her pain, set the child free

Thanks a lot,
-Tina-

Wow, that was a very concerning and deep poem. I have two friends who had eating disorders, and the pain that I saw them go through was unbearable. This poem pretty much sums up what I percieved of them. Thank-god for friends, huh? I'm sorry you had to go through that suffering, but I'm very glad you pulled through. My thoughts are with you. Thanks for sharing your work. Your poem is awesome!

Much love,
Mel

Hey, great poem.  Well, I can say that I can totally relate, although no one has ever confirmed that I have a disorder.  I don't think that anyone but my boyfriend notices, and that might be only because I tell him some things, so I sort of know what you went through.  And I don't think I'm too boney, but I do know I'm pale.  Most people have no idea how much pain you go through with an eating disorder.  Well I think I'll shut up now, sorry for goin on and on.... great poem keep writing

first of all congradulations that u were able to recover somewhat from your disorder...this topic which u have written about is only but too familiar and i am telling you that it is the love from within and the love from others that will help get u through this, and i see that this has already happened   thank goodness too.    your poem is beautiful and need no corrections from me, if something is to come out of you, let it be your poetry

A powerful inside look at such a horrible disease.  I'm so glad that you're pulling through it.  Let those around you help you, use their strength.  Again, a wonderful piece of work.

How I can relate to this.  I have had the same problems and they still flare up every once in a while.  But it is always the people around me that help me get back on my feet again. I think anyone who notices something different about a person should get help for them as soon as possible.  I don't want to know where I would be if someone didn't notice my problem when they did.  Best wishes to you- and good poem!
