You look at me
As though I hold the key to your heart.
You touch me
As if it were the first time you've felt flesh on flesh.

You live each day pretending it is your last,
But amidst all of your deepened shades of gray
You sometimes catch a glimpse of you really are...
And you are frightened.

You wonder what could have been...
And what it someday will be.
One of these times,
Walking too close to that edge you will slip,
and fall into your river of pain.
