"Soon we will be in America"
said the father to his family of four.

They boarded the raft, and they set off,
on that balmy night at coast.

Six days later,
along came the coast guard.

They found four bodies among the wrekage
at a spot along the bay.

Although they never made it across,
the officers brought them ashore,
for a burial, flowers galore.

"Soon they'll be in America."
Said the captain in a sober tone.
as they neared the shore.

-dedicated to all those who never made it across-

A very thought-provoking and sorrowful topic Jose ... your thoughts flowed nicely in this verse, well done!

Best wishes,

Jose, this is a wonderful piece. It's sad to think of what people do to get to this country. We take it for granted. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This is a lovely poem with a wonderful thought behind it.

Keep up the good stuff.

Waves...amazing hey? Wind blowing over smoothe ocean water creates shear. The longer the wind blows, and the futher the fetch, the more energy gets transferred from the wind to the water. What started off as a breeze 1 000km away, ends up as a glass-faced barrel at some far off beach.

thanks everybody, I'm glad that you liked my poem.
I got the idea from a poetry book that I bought in Miami's little Havana neighborhood.
The book I bought was writen in a raft, by a refugee, who was coming to America. The raft capsized, and wreaked out on the open sea.  The poetry was found amidst the wreakage.
