The sun sets upon this land,
plunging the world into unforgiving darkness.
And as the nighttime conquers the day,
It descends upon the dark lands
like a cold, dark veil, to claim its prize...
the sweet delicious dreams, of the unwary.
The Dreamsnatcher.

Like some ravenous plague,
It affects as many as it can get to in its time.
It descends upon the innocent, sleeping men, and women as they lie,
innocent as newborn children in their beds,
and feasts upon their tender, fragile dreams...
and spits them back out as horrific, brutal nightmares.

Some people are strong, and can avoid this, with a strong will.
For others, the nightmare becomes a part of their fears forever.
They shut their minds and try not to think about the mind numbing terror.
They stay up as late as possible, trying not to sleep,
afraid the fears, and the demons that wield them may return.
They try to convince themselves they're not afraid,
all the while shaking inside from sheer terror.

It lives for this, and relishes every moment,
feasting on the terror, and lonliness of those effected.
I know Its out there,
waiting for me.
waiting untill i sleep, in order poison my dreams,
as precious to me as a child is to its loving mother,
And bring nightmares in return.

So I stay up, for i know its out there.
The Dreamsnatcher-
It who feasts upon sweet dreams,
and vomits forth bitter nightmares.

Each and every night, i can feel it.
It exist out there,
somewhere.

So i shut my mind, trying not to think about the mind numbing terror.
I stay up as late as possible-

And try to convince myself im not afraid.

I enjoyed this one Driven    I watched "The Sixth Sense" last night, and wasn't ready to head to sleep too quickly myself for fear of your "Dreamsnatcher".  Very descriptive writing!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Such a dark, well-written poem, my friend. I know the dreamsnatcher well, and you describe him perfectly.

Very nice poem, very interesting, but your dreamcatcher doesn't scare me, I think I'm one of the strong.
