Every masterpiece has it's own beginning.
Great cities start off as one single brick.
Endless roads start off as a single slab of tar.
A jungle starts with one tree.
And this certain project,
begins with a single thought...
To Create.

You see, im an artist by trade.
It's one of the things i do best.
Most of what i do, ive already been through.
But every time i go through it...
it seems like im starting out for the first time.

Now is no different, as im in my basement once again.
I have a sheet of paper, and a pencil in front of me, but one thing...
WHAT am i going to put on the paper?
Long minutes pass, and frustrating quiet passes
over my brooding, still form.

Suddenly it hits!
An idea, a wonderful idea.
Like the first raindrop that precedes a rainstorm,
the first inkling of a good idea comes forth.
So, i sketch it out. A little shaky at first, but it's okay.
It's a sketch.
but now, as decisions are finalized by swooping, and deliberate strokes of my pencil,
the piece very quickly begins to take shape.
A few more well placed lines,
and it begins to fall into place,
the direction still not clear,
but headed in a general direction.
More lines added, and some shading, and detail...
the piece begins to stand out from the paper.
Its happening...its well on is way!!
i'm so excited, im doin' it again!!
Creating from ones own head gives such a buzz!!!
But settle down, not done yet...
more detail to add. but the piece, happy to say,
is almost done...the last touch...there...
no, THERE!!!
FINISHED!!! a Masterpiece, better than my last!
Worthy to show off like a kid who gets his first bike.

Whew! It sure is draining, though.
So much stuff going in your mind at the same time,
just to produce something on a sheet of paper!
who knew that sometimes, when you put your all into a work...
it becomes so tiring?

But just because im tired now, and i want to sleep,
does NOT mean im done creating!
Im not sure about other artists, but i know when i get tired while drawing,
its a good thing.
When you dont think about it, it comes a lot quicker.
You're on a roll, so WHY STOP NOW?
You think it's over because im tired?-
Im not done...

Hand me another sheet of paper!

(NOTE: I had made a mistake earlier. THIS is the actual poem, not my other one called Creation. this is the finished one, but i decided to just leave the other one up.)

This is really great.  I'm not much of an artist myself unless you consider stick people art.  But I do remember a few times in my electonics lab in school, taking some wire and circuts and making something usefull off of the top of my head.  Then I'd show it off untill someone made something cooler, then it was back to the workshop.  I really like your poems and now I'm going to go read the other one.

Just remember, this can apply to poetry as well as art.

Hey there, nice job.  I liked this poem very much.  It tells how you feel whne you first try to write.  I enjoyed reading it very much.  Keep up the good work.
