Buzzards perch high
Above the pine woods
On the dead limbs
Of a dry weathered tree

Waiting...
Without complaint
Patiently passing time
In the still, cold winter air

With fully engaged eyes and nostrils
They scan the landscape below
Knowing in time
Their services will be needed
As always,
Undertakers and lawyers
Never go hungry
In any season

Very soon they will be circling
Round the kill

(This is not meant to offend anyone, if you are in any of the professions mentioned. I understand that they are a worthy calling. The poem was written from the point of what the  nature of life is and the two certain things in life of death and taxes, plus it shows how in the circle of life someone always is able to profit from the misfortunes of others.)

I like the metaphor here...and I don't think anyone would get offended...well, I hope not!

'With fully engaged eyes and nostrils'

I just thought you should know that I think this line is great.

Welcome to Passions Songbird...glad you chose to come and sing in Dark passions...

I see no offense here. Buzzards are one of the ugliest creatures, here in Florida, I see them every where, circling, waiting, profiting... I can appreciate this piece.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..

Did you know that buzzards pee on themselves to avoid excessive heat?

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

No, didn't know that, maybe that why the smell of decay doesn't bother them, they stink too much theirselves! I think there must be a lesson in that.
