Daddy

Desert stretches onward for miles upon miles upon miles.
Where once there was turmoil now there is peace.
Daddy told me about the wave that came just after that blast.
"It swept away everything." He told me.  "And left peace."
There were spots and rashes on his face, and everything was cold.

"I love you, daddy...."

Replacement

Where once there was war, and death and killing,
Now we have peace, and emptiness, and newness.
Nobody really mourns Daddy.  "That's one less human,"
They say to me, whenever I cry for him.
"One less human to make wars, and kill people."

"I miss him...."

Life

Bones and torn fabric lay sprawled out for miles upon miles.
They are the remains of a once oppressive world.
"Let's clean up!" We all decide  But we are too busy
Building.  Joy has enveloped the land.  Survivors come one
Come all.  Life has begun anew.  No more bloodshed, ever.

"Never again....."

Start Anew

Others come across the great dunes, toward us, spears in hand.
"This is our land!  This is our land!!!"
We fight, and we fight, and we fight.  All for peace.
The killing starts anew.  We make newer, and better weapons.
Then one day, on those plains, the wave strikes again.

"I love you, daddy....."

But you were wrong.

This left me sad. A lot of reflection and hope and then hope destroyed. Sounds like the cycle of life.

This was great!! So sad though, the ending was like this wonderful moment of sadness where you just sit there and muse over the general meaning of the poem. I loved this one!

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

Thanks, guys.  I wrote this one as an attack on basic human nature.  I figured that there's be peace for a while after a nuclear holocaust, but then the survivors would then just start fighting each other, lol.
