"Rip symbolizes the subtle changes of the township and the political changes of the society due to his sleeeping through the most important socio-political event of early America."

Could that be true of our society today and the change it has encountered with  cyber-space? hmmmmmmmmmmmm......... Just a thought!
How times have changed, huh!  Now we have the internet to lure us, and make us wild with romanctic idealogy in the form of a screen!

Where are you?

I wait
I stare

My position is fixed
I wait patiently for hours
Just to see you "appear"
Where are you?

Obviously,  I am not as important
Your priorities are not the same
What is this internet fright?
That I tend to day and night.

I wait
I stare
All I see is your not there

It is my problem
Not yours,
I am sure
I need a cure

I wait
I stare
And still your not there

Until I am sleepy
Give up all hope
I will go to sleep soon
With my heart of doom

I wait
I stare
I think I no longer care

But then ....
You appear
My heart races
My eyes twinkle

What the hell is wrong
With Miss Rip Van Winkle?!

illusion,
Very clever poem and I'm sure we've all done that at some time. I know I have.

Cool poem.  I like the points you've made about society.  It is true, many people are "committing cyber suicide".  They just go into the computer and never come out again.  That happened with one of my relatives, and it cost him his career.

The most tragic thing is that as the world gets worse, we the lucky ones of North America, will just dive deeper and deeper into the computer.  Then who will be the force that has the power?

Illusion...I can relate well to this.  It's like waiting on that e-mail that never comes again...and still you wait, and hope.  Very well said.  Hardrock
