Do you know what it’s like
When your dreams turn to dust
You don’t want to face it
But know that you must
When your heart has been used
As a tool just for lust
You're left sad and lonely
With no one to trust

Do you know what it’s like
When there’s no one for you
No matter that which you try
Or things that you do
Women are cruel
And this is so true
With the money you spend
Your heart will pay too

Do you know what it’s like
When you’re left all alone
To deal with the pain
For your sins you atone
Your heart becomes brittle
Then turns into stone
While slowly you die
For your future’s been shown

Do you know what it’s like
To try to move on
Like coming of night
Or waking of dawn
With all of your strength
You try to hang on
Knowing full well
That your love is all gone

Do you know what it’s like
I can say that I do
It happened to me
And it’ll happen to you
Just try to hold steady
That’s all you can do
I’ll end with that message
I impart to you

It happens to all of us men and women alike.
It is nice you finished this as you did, with a glimmer of hope etc..
Well done Mr. Webb!!

Hmm... written very well - I can sadly relate

You know... not all women are like you portray... just like not all men are like that!

Take care.  ~ Tara ~

Suzanne Arlene: Perhaps you're right, "not all women are cruel", just the ones that live in southern california. You see, out here the size of your heart doesn't matter, but the size of your wallet dose and that's truely a sad thing. Oh well, maybe one day when I become rich and famous I'll be able to afford love. That's what I meant when I wrote "whith the money you spend, your heart will pay too". I guess I should have said, "for every dollar you spend, your heart will pay two". Thanks for your comments.

Isis: I realize that it happens to all of us. It's just that I'm a guy and only know what it's like from my point of view. But I'm glad you cought my words of encouragement at the end. Thank you.

Poet deVine: I'm sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you.

taramw: I know, men and women alike can be cruel. But seeing as how I'm a guy I can only relate to how women are, at least the women in my neck of the woods. Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

To all: Please don't be offended by my comment towards women. I was merely relating to what reality is like in southern california. I mean no offence to anyone personally. This is just one of the facts of life one has to deal with when living where I do.

Take care all and thank you.

Yeah! I think many here know, both male and female, and I doubt many would be offended either. Well done!

Yes, I know what it's like to have a closeness and then have it taken away. Poets have the advantage, for healing through their words. Like this one, keep writing.

What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life.

Yes, I do know what it's like but from a woman's point of view.  My life is not at all what I dreamed it would be.  Men are very cruel too and words hurt terribly sometimes.  Great writing.  I could really relate to it.  Though the help of a wonderful friend, I am slowly being able to cope with my life as it is.  Keep up the great work!

EagleOne: Thanks, I know most of the ladies don't like that one line, but as we all know it could have been said about either gender. Thanks again.

Irish Rose: I know what you mean, I think I'm still in the healing process. It's taking longer than I had thought it would but as time goes on, I get better. Thank you.

Dream Chaser: Well, if it makes you feel any better, my life is nothing like I dreamed it would be. Just be thankful that you have some close friends to help you through this rough time. If you like, e-mail me and we can talk. Maybe we can help heal each other. Thanks for replying to my piece, take care.

G.A.? I did enjoy this---even though a bitter pill to swallow in places... and it does happen both ways, sadly. And by the way...I liked your revision of the "money" line---that's a keeper, as is the entire poem. All you can do, is try...

I know this painfull and all too well.  So much so, it stopped me dead in my tracks from going forward for the last several years.    That was my greatest mistake.
I am sorry you have to go through this sort of pain and betrayal, but I guess it is part of life??   We just can't give up,  and that is the hard part.  I guess to not let bitterness take over our souls, mind and heart until we no longer truly live is our greatest sin.   I believe you will find your way.  Great  poem, with wonderful expression.  You have given me so much by reading your poetry.  You see.....women sometimes feel about men,  the same way you feel about women.  I guess it does not matter what the gender is, everyone just wants to genuinely  be loved.  Hugs to you!

serenity: Sorry about the "pill". I was just mirely relating my own personal experiances as I always do with my writing. I'm glad you enjoyed this piece though. You really like the revision? I don't know, I like it both ways and since it's too late to change it, I'll leave it the way it is.

Take care and thank you for reading my piece.

Illusion: Hi Lynne. Thanks for stopping by. I'll admit that bitterness has captured my heart and I don't know that I'll ever be able to trust another woman with it. Who knows, perhaps in time I'll allow myself to trust in women again, but not any time soon. Self preservation is the only thing I'm concerned with now and my kids, of course.

Anyways, I'm glad you stopped by and read my piece. It's good to hear from you. Take care!

Yeah it is a sad thing that you have written about here  . But life does move on as does the days of our lives!  Okay Okay bad joke there.
You have a great talent Greg in your writing. Let it help mend the wounds that so called "love" has scorned you with.  We all live and learn from OUR mistakes. Only to move on with better choices.  Love is not always a "bad" thing, its just a learning tool till we find our soulmates.    I know you never mentioned it, but alot of people just give up on romance and relationships.  DONT do that!!  When you arent even looking that soulmate will whisper in your ear.  (As I look behind me  ...hmmmmmmmm)

Peace

Dark_kisses_Within: Thanks for the comments and you're right, one should never give up. Let's just say that I'm taking a vacation from the whole "love" thing. If I do have a "soulmate" out there, she'll have to find me because I'm simply tired of looking. I haven't totally closed myself off, I've just set my motor to idle for now. Thanks again. Take care.

Do you know what it's like? Oh, yes I do, very well my friend. This kind of pain can be shared both ways, women and men alike can be very cruel. Just one more trial of life.

Well written

Ok, Ok, I know that men can be just as cruel as women, but seeing as how I'm a man, I can only relate my point of view. Again, I wasn't meaning to offend anybody here because I realize that we all know "what it's like" on both ends of the spectrum. This will be my last reply to this piece because everybody seems to be going off on that one line. I'm not sorry for it though, I was just simply relating my own personal experiances, that's all.

Ginners: Don't give up. I haven't, at least not entirely. Just know that we are all alike here and (correct me if I'm wrong) we are all here for each other. Thank you for reading my work and may piece go with you.

dragonpoe: Ya, I guess you're right, it is "just one more trial of life". But I'm left with one question. After all of the dues I've paid...when do I get the damn membership...lol! I guess never. Oh well, thank you for reading my piece, I'm glad you liked it. Take care.

Well, I can relate to how you feel, but just like not all women are cruel, not all men are idiots. Also, women don't mean to be cruel most of the time, we are just trying to do what we think is right. Crud, I have to go to school now. bye.

I can't see at all. Even if I could it would all be gray, put your picture on my wall, it reminds me that it's not so bad, it's not so bad.

This is a really great poem I can totally and completely relate from a woman's point of view of course. But we're not all like that and over here on the east coast, at least with me, it is the size of the heart that matters. My boyfriend is a gas jockey (he works at a gast station) and believe me he's not rich, but you know what I don't care I have more fun sitting at home watching a movie than I would going out to a big expensive place. Congratulations on the great poem I'm sorry about what happened.

Ok, maybe I will reply again. I can't stand not thanking people for reading and commenting my work. So here it goes.

Allysa: Thank you for reading my work. Not all men/women are cruel idiots, just the ones that I've had the missfrotune to deal with. I think that women just don't know what they want. They'll tell you one thing, but when you give it to them they turn it away preferring to take the exact opposite. I give up trying to figure that one out. Oh well, it doen't matter to me any more. Take care and have fun in school.

liqwidnik: Well I'm glad to hear that you're not that shallow. I only wish I could say that about the women in my neck of the woods. I'm sure there are some out here, somewhere, I just haven't found one yet. Thank you for reading my work, I'm glad you liked it.

Take care all!

Victoria: That's a good point. I suppose I need to change my taste in order to find what it is that I'm looking for. Thank you!

Jesse Jaymz: I did read one of your works and it very good. I can see the paralells in our work. I'm not that down anymore. I just don't care and that's the truly sad thing. Keep up the good work.

carolinadreams: Ok? Sorry, but I didn't get what it was that you were trying to convey. Thanks for commenting anyway.
