The steady 'plink' of dripping water
I still hear the echoes
Running through the service chase
Occasionally filled with scalding steam
The wall is slick and fetid
Pausing to wipe my hand on
My stained trouser leg

I have a secret place
Down here in subterranea
Where live the Moles and Finks
With their bottled demons
And rancid memories
Minds smelling of fear and tin

I must rest, must move on
Must
Must
Must lay my burden down
He's a little heavy
At present

But soon, ah soon
The steady 'plink' of dripping water
Will erode him down
Until his skin hands
Like so many sheets of muslin
Grey with colonies of spores

And whence comes the time
He no longer amuses
That dog shall be put down
And I will scour the cities
For another soul like mine

Heh...no lie, Chris, especially since the speaker is not refering to 'man's best friend' in this one...but someone more...bipedal.
