The Shores of Alone

Dedicated to Ken, the elusive, ever present, ever absent man...

How do I forget you,
this hopeless, hurtful need?
How to stop this aching
when I can only bleed.

You never said you'd save me
yet I saw you as a prince,
in spite of signs of absence
I never saw the hints.

You only really wanted me
when I was far away.
Too close, and now it's different,
and once again I pay.

Goodbye my love that never was,
my dream of future bliss.
So far I came to hold you,
to feel your torrid kiss.

I never even had the time
to show you what I meant.
She stole it from me blatantly
and now it's nearly spent.

The dream of love on sandy beach,
or in a bubbling heat.
No time to truly tantalize,
to make our lives complete.

Just quickly here and now you're gone
and take with you my plans.
Thats all I get for all my hopes
I'm left alone to stand.

I gave to you so much of me,
my dreams on silver platter.
You held them lightly in your hands
and then you let them shatter.

Like ice that's fallen from the roof,
or eggs dropped on the floor,
I feel I'm melting, cracking,
I wanted so much more.

I have to tell you how I feel
and then I have to go.
But still this love will shine on through,
it's something that I know.

I love you, Ken, and you don't care,
it's hard to know its true.
Through all these years of memories
you break my heart in two.

Heartbreaking...

you have written this pain with such brutal honesty.

'Goodbye my love that never was'

yet it doesn't sound like any goodbye has been said...

Powerful stuff Cat!  I'll say it again love, it's Ken's loss not yours.  I know the feelings it is and was yet never shall be.  It hurts, it's the stuff dreams are made of, and the pain of the undead when it doesn't work.  *hugs*

Sandra,  this is such a heartfelt poem... must have been difficult to write... and you have encapsulated your deep feelings so well. The heart is such a gentle organ... people tend to forget this.

Take care    ~ Tara ~

The hardest is to let your dreams die... I'm still trying to keep mine breathing.
All the best to you Sandra, take care!

Sandra,

What a beautiful heartwrenching piece of work. Ironic how no matter how strongly we say goodbye, there is still that opening we leave for their return.... He doesn't deserve you...
