I think of all the things that I've gone through,
Here under this great and vast tree.
I've gotten into so much trouble for being
A creative person.

I am constantly accused of reinventing the wheel,
Whenever I think of a better way to do something.
Why can't we just accept people for who they are?
I am shunned for the very thing we sought to protect.

We are bomberded day after day by advances in technology.
But what is it all for?
Making life better?  Freeing us from dissease?
No.  It is for power and control.

And so, I walk away from this great tree that I've so often sat under,
For the last time.
Never again shall I sit under it and think.
For today I've been captured by the authorities
Because my cerebral cortex was on fire,
thinking forbidden thoughts, and they registered on the monitors.

Goodbye, oh Tree.
Goodbye, Freedom.

Interesting - Almost like a sci-fi show, eh? The difference between the tree and the tech is a matter of perception only methinks.

Yes, this is mostly sci-fi.  I always like to write my greatest fears about the future in poetry.  The tree, other than being a "quiet refuge" which the main character used to sit under, represents the elimination of the only place left in which one can withdraw from society - the mind.  My fear is that science will soon find a way to eliminate that.

Shades of 1984..but you are too young for that movie, hm? Anyway, this is great, I have the same fears about the way the world is taking us.

I read the book, 1984.  I haven't seen the movie, though.  Yes, I am fearful that we will soon end up with a "thought police" and stuff like that.

reading 1984 right now actually...it scares me when i see bits of truth in satiric prophecy. orwell and huxley were more right than they knew... nice ending. i liked it.
