Don't say i didn't warn you.

---------------
Requiem: Perversion of the Innocent

The Crusader of Light

In my nightmares dark, I have foreseen the coming of a terrible force,
Formless as it is merciless, it has returned for a singular purpose,
To sow its seeds in the souls of an entire generation of innocents,
This perversion of the innocent cannot be allowed to progress,

The Demon Knight

In my fantasies wild, I have envisioned a great calamity to befall the mortal realm,
An entire generation of innocent to do my bidding, only I must plant the seed,
Mortal agencies have grown weak over the countless decades past,
Nothing can halt this perversion of the innocent.

The Crusader of Light

Few bastions of Light remain to combat this wave of corruption,
I fear time has diminished the purity of my brethren’s courage,
If I am to stroll into the mouth of this dark plague alone,
Then so be it! May the heaven sing with the glory of a lost hero,

The Demon Knight

Castles crumble under the weight of night everlasting.
Armies bath their torn standards in the blood of their fallen,
Yet one man dares to forestall my sowing, this Crusader of Light,
I must teach him to interfere with the agenda of hell,

The Crusader of Light

Every village I arrived in bares the same horrible evidence of demonic assault,
Burning barns, huts torn asunder with all the fury of the burning hells,
Church bells toll in hopes of an angelic retaliation, but heaven sends none,
Heaven has abandon us mortals, salvation rest upon our own shoulders,
My shoulders,

My eyes sweep across the blackened fields of a once proud land,
Across the unburied carcasses of a once proud people,
The time has come for holy retribution against this demonic menace,
So alone I stroll, to the very gate of hell, my head held high,

“Come you here, Demon!” I yell.  “Face me, cowardly one!”

The Demon Knight

Angry yells avert my mind’s rest,
Who dares disturbs me?
Some holy terror in mortal guise perhaps?
Or an angelic warrior on some heaven-sent mission of revenge?

“Who dares disturbs me?  I yell.

The Crusader of Light

“I have no name, cruel one.”  I say.  “You may call me the Crusader of Light”

Narrator

Drawing his sword, he stood facing the very icon of this tide of darkness,
They clashed for hours, sword verses talon, shield verses scale,
But, finally in one powerful slash, the demon’s claws hewed through the crusader’s armor,
His lifeblood spilled upon the dusty ground, despite the intense burning pain, he cried not,
In his last defiant breath, the mighty crusader heaved his massive blade through the demon tough scales,
Falling with a unholy scream, the demon joined him on the dusty ground, their blood entwined,
No one ever witnessed the last fight of the Crusader of Light, or the fall of the infamous Demon Knight,
But some say, if you listen on a dark night, you can still hear the clash of claw and steel,

Egad! That was a long one.  Well, this is a poem about something written in free verse (Wait, doesn’t that constitute as a story?).  Thanks for reading.
