Red Feathered Boa

Lying limp and ill-used
on the bed trailing the floor
feathers askew and abused
like a well-worn whore.

Reflecting sickly
on the rough night before,
It recalls--

A heavily smoke-filled,
low-life saloon
amid sweat-soiled men
liquored up and loud
spewing their chew into rusty,
trickling-over spittoon,
cackling so proud.

Being stroked,
groped
and fingered
as calloused,
fat paws lingered.

Choking, pulling it
to the clink of coins
tossed in game by the stool.
Shoved to the loins
of one man where it pooled.

It's fought over,
tugged at, shared,
finding itself at the beaten,
chipped bar.

It stares
into the cracked, filmy mirror
seeing bottles hurled carelessly
against walls forever scarred.

Its senses pillaged like the raped
by raucous laughter.
Hearing grotesque screams of the
not so innocent being prized,
their garters sought after.

Being wrapped cruelly 'round
stubble-roughened neck of yet
another's need.
Its once perfumed feathers
found assaulted by stench
of cheap whiskey and greed.

It loses a feather,
watching a piece of itself
tumble down at slow speed,
heard whispering,

~I bleed~

Entrenched in symbolism this poem lies
With sadness and tragedy it is a prize.
The feelings you have so bravely portrayed
Come alive vividly in this bed you have made.

You drew me into this world with your talent, chanson.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

whatcha doing in this darkness baby
when you know love will set you free?
will you stay in the sea forever
Drowning there for all eternity? ~Live
