We know it's there,
Yet most wallow in ignorance,
insisting on there being NO way to stop it

Like water slowly seeping from some crack in the ceiling,
It inches it's way into our lives
Its vile tentacles reaching, creeping
Leaving ultimately violence in its wake.

At first, its distant, far away.
Then suddenly, its all around you as time goes on
Its closer then you think,
Threatening to consume the chauvanist, the fanatic, and the ignorant fool,
Like some dark, voracious carrion-bird.

What is this "it" that i babble about, you ask.
This thing that bring only ignorance, violence, and if allowed...
genocide.
This foul-ignorant demon with only one dim eye, spawned from ignorance,
and misinformation, and fanaticism.
The eye to see only HIS side of things, and no one else's?

Is it just the descending arm of twilight that comes by for a few hours,
Then flees when the daytime is near?
No.
Is it a big, ugly demon here to feast on souls?
No.

The thing i speak of is not tangible,
But still brings darkness, even in daytime.
It has no mouth, but still consumes the unwary in their own self-elitist thoughts.
You cant "see" this hell-spawned monstosity, but yet it is as threatening
As Hell, a thousand times over...

This thing i speak of is called....
PREJUDICE,
And it threatens to take the world over if we,
As a people, are not careful.
I warn you, this path only leads to desturction, and damnation.
And i beg of you, do NOT let yourself fall into a stubborn,
Fanatical belief that you are better than someone else just because of who your "God" is,
Or the color of one's skin, or any other reason.
Heed my words,
Or forever be sucked into a life of ignorance,
Fanaticism,
Violence,
And eventually....
ATONEMENT!

Thank you.

You are right my prescient friend, mankind’s fate is to destroy itself.  Racism, though a terrible fiend, will not however, be the cause.  Thousands are dead, all because they answered wrong to the “God” question…Example:
Devout person asks “Do you believe in God?”
Infidel response: “No”
Boom! The infidel is dead.
Another example.
Devout person asks “Do you believe in God?”
Infidel response: “Yes”
Devout person thinks for a second. “Do you believe in my God?”
Infidel response: “No”
Boom! Dead!

This poem is full of emotion and exclamation…hmm, I think this could be coincidence, because your name happens to be “!!!”.  I guess that makes perfect sense.

So true are all of you. In fact the malaise goes far deeper - colour, caste, creed, language, religion, region,
age, wealth and God alone knows what not are the prime movers of this planet and one shudders to think among what a bunch of freaks, the few with sanity left are existing.
And your expression of the disease as your thoughts were very fine.
I give you a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha! Ditto to what Deepak said... how true!  Racism is not only expressed in religion... good work !!!

Once again, id like to thank you for your response, and your views and critiques on the subject. However after reading your repsonses, i have only one regret...that i change the title, seeing as how i seem to be talking about prejudice in general, instead of racism. To that i say..."Whoops, silly me!"
Well anyway thank you for your responses!!!

Bravo!!!!  Take a bow !!!!!!!!!    Any prejudice sux, and at times even the best of us, may have inadvertently been prejudiced against something, someone, or some beliefs.
As we grow, (HOPEFULLY) we become more 'aware' of the world around us and the importance of NOT being prejudiced about something we dont understand, or are afraid of etc.
Another classic example...
Buddhists, many, many Christians cannot stand them and their beliefs, and their Gods, Goddesses etc.  Yet Buddah and Jesus spoke and agreed and most of it, thousands of years ago.  Five years ago I would've said I was against buddhists myself.  But since researching them, their beliefs etc. I know and realise, and appreciate their beliefs enough to not be prejudiced..
I hope others may 'see' as you and I have seen, and be not so swift to judge those different from ourselves...
Brilliant work my friend!!!
