The Shores of Alone

Two glasses raised in happy toast,
the day they loved each other most.
He threw the garter; she, bouquet
immersed within their happy day.
Swore to forever love, adore
forgetting all who came before.

They meant it then, but this is now
somehow, time has erased their vow.
He looks away when she's in need
completely absent as she bleeds.
He doesn't see how he's not there
apparently he's unaware.

She starts to look for love afar
the lonliness is just too hard.
Nothing but strangers in the night
too late to try to make things right.

A sad but common ending, true
but little else that they can do.
What's worse is they will try again
and land exactly where they've been.

Cat, how sad for them for her!!!  It seems all too true, 1 in 3 marriages end these days.  Why?  Perhaps it is too easy to divorce?  Perhaps, people are too critical or each other.  They have managed for thousands of years to marry for life, but these days people give up or wander at the drop of the hat.
I don't have any answers either, suffice to say it is a sad old world we live in, the changes we want to see, must start with us..
Great work hon

Sometimes I think why do people even bother to get married? It's probably gonna end in a few years... And maybe love is destined to fade away because we're looking constantly for new excitements, thrills... Unless, you find your true soul mate, your destiny, but how can you be sure? And where do you go looking for him? For all I know he can be in Africa! Nevertheless, I loved your poem

Cat, this is such an ashes and dust poem. I tasted it.

Be well

Hi Cat,

As for the poem I am in tears it was so awesome and true, I had my soul mate for sixteen years but he desided that my best friend was to take my place, now I am with someone that does not love me this was not how the first marriage went just the oposite yet like your poem in the begining I did not see life less than perfect it happened over the last few years, I personally feel that you never really know, I have chosen to fight as long as I can, but some people just do not want to do that and in the end I will probley not gain any ground because of what I know of him now, it is a sad thing though and my advice would be to take your time and test MANY waters before any commitment of marriage, like I said this poem reflects much wisdom and so filled with truth.

Love, Cerenity

sniff sniff, sad and true. But no reason to be defeatist: it needn't always end that way (one hopes   )
