He came, he loved me, he left,
Leaving my very being cold and alone,
My very life and breath bereft,
Then for months my heart, merely a stone.

Mental infusions,
Gaining strength at last,
Now again knowing confusion,
Why can't he stay in the past?

I was his light, his fantasy,
He my laughing clown,
Now only a half felt reality,
Again we are let down.

Daily memories start to lessen,
Now longer are we our every thought,
Now it's only the occasional smile of fondness,
And that is as it ought.

We can't go there again,
With feelings such as these,
The outcome would only be no good,
We wouldn't know comfort and ease.

Too much of anything is never any good,
Too much emotion merely a ticking time bomb,
Too much too soon is a dangerous thing,
We two could slip away , our lives aplomb.

So we both know not to go there again,
Both know it is indeed safer this way,
We'll always hold each other's memory,
For we know of no other way...........

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Too much of anything is indeed dangerous.  Quite dangerous.  I relate to this line the most: “Too much too soon is a dangerous thing,”.  I really like it, well the whole thing.  Nice work.

~Oh I liked this!!!

Mental infusions
Gaining strength at last,
Now again knowing confusion,
Why can't he stay in the past?

I feel that way many times.
Great poetry!~

Where is life with its fullness for those who're afraid to drink deep.
I like this very much. Sort of hesitant but deeply moving.

Indeed my friend, we start out wanting more. . . but in getting more, we get too much. . . and then, we're in trouble. . .

Excellent poem. . .

Oh, Isis, I have lived this, every word, every line, every stanza, to the hilt. Not once, but twice, too much, too soon, then they leave...gone, but where? Yes, this is "my" poem, it is imprinted in my heart and it tells me I am not alone. It tells me that a memory is worth at least something, for you cannot go back after it all blows up in your face. Thank you for writing this and touching my heart.

Kathleen, so glad you understood this piece and can relate as you do, past mistakes yes, but still we have our memories of the sweeter times.  They are gifts unto themselves..

"I was his light, his fantasy" ~

wonderful & poignant. . .
reminded me of a past love in which neither could live up to the fantasy yet were still consumed & clouded by each other ~

thank you ~ jerralynne
