Between a laugh and a tear...

0 posted 2000-08-04 05:26 PM

Can't remember the day I was born
Long ago now but still I wonder
Did they rejoice or did they mourn
Was I a loving son or just a blunder?

Battled through those painful years
Laughter and ridicule accompanied me
Can't recall happiness, knew mostly fears
They thought they knew but just couldn't see

Stumbled through this twisted life
Built a dream, was it just I couldn't cope?
No direction now, confusion it is rife
Just a tired old man with no more hope!

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown

A wonderful poem, and the story of too many lives , I am sure.

Great poem, but tragic in many ways.
Be well

Thanks to all for reading and responding, with luck I hope to be able to spend a little more time here in the future.

Isis...strange how some questions just seem to haunt throughout your life! Thanks for reading, your comments are always welcomed.

lotharingia....Sadly I think you may be right and too many people are all too familiar with this feelig.

Kethry...I've never really looked upon it as sad or tragic, just the way it is. But yes, you are right.

SpitFire....It is a sad feeling for me when a work such as this is so familiar to others.
Peace to you my friend.

Golden.  This poem grabbed ahold of my emotions from the very beginning and just pulled as hard as it could to draw tears, and did quite so.

Okay, I'm telling myself you couldn't possibly know that I am one of three sisters--Known to those who know as "The Twisted Sisters---and you also could not possibly know that I've an intriguing and impossible friend who's favorite answer to me is:  "cope."  Okay, just know that I related to alot of this, before I write a novel...

Thank you!!!  It obviously spoke to me...lol.

BigPimpinSk8tr, Jenn, serenity, I thank you all for reading. I think the sadest thing is that far too many people relate to these feelings.
