Whispers in the Night

Wrapped in the darkness
of our lonely night
my wandering mind seeks to rest.
Tomorrow will not wake to lead me
and this night will not my soul release.

Even as our pulse moves to slow
the depth of your loving cuts my heart.
And I know that I must go.

From the sorrows each had inside
we reached out to find
the warmth that we had left behind
and wrapped ourselves
deep within affection.

I hear the sorrow
fall from your voice into my night,
and feel your fingers on my face
as you trace my brow.
I know you have no clue,
and it’s killing me.

You tell me you know deep inside
how very good our life could be.
Your sweet words fill the night
as my heart breaks again beside you.

This tenderness like innocents we found
is more gentle than you want to see.
You say you know that this is it
as your sweet whispers hold me tight.
Then you ask me what I’m feeling now --
only your warm touch on my skin.

For now in comfort a deeper pain I know.
The aching of our need
craved more than we had to give.

Wrapped in the darkness
of our lonely night
my wandering mind seeks to rest.
Tomorrow will not wake to lead me
and this night will not my soul release.

I hear the sorrow
fall from your voice into my night,
and feel your fingers on my face
as you trace my brow.
I know you have no clue,
and it’s killing me.

Oh Evan, I got chills from that. I think I have been both parties in that poem, and they both have their own pain. Perfect. Love your writing.

A painful piece, very well written...I am fumbling for words after reading such a delicate piece, so I shall remain silent.

*sigh* this is such a moving piece hon, how many of us wish we were that understood and loved..

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Thank you all for the wonderful response. It's nice to know when someone reads and appreciates that which you,ve written, as I'm sure you all know...

Thank you guys!!

Evan this is beautiful, hard to know when it's over I read it twice and it's on my list to back and read again.
Be well
